Barclays rewards card

Hello,

I recently applied and got denied for a Barclays rewards card. My TU FICO score is 772 so I called the recon number and they approved me for $1000. I was just happy with the fact that my application got turned from denied to approved that I didn't really bother asking if I can get the limit increased.

Should I have asked for more with my kind of score? Would it be possible to call the backdoor number again and ask for an increase or is it too late? My credit card is already setup because I was able to login to my account and see my card details.

Thank you

Re: Barclays rewards card

What reason did they give you for denial? That is a very high FICO score. I know it's a diferent product but I got a $2000 CL with the Apple card and my TU FICO at the time was around 676 with multiple baddies.

Transunion: 713 FICO (5/13/2014) MyFico
Experian: 789 FICO (4/10/12) Lender Pull
Equifax: 695 FICO (1/10/14) MyFico

My cards: Chase United Mileage Plus 7000CL (3/12), CITI Simplicity 1800CL (9/12), Cap1 Platinum 1000CL (2/10), Cap1 Cash back 1500CL (11/11), Apple Barclay's 2500CL (11/11), Discover IT 6000CL (5/13)

My Primary Financial Goal is to put down my utl%.

+1 Is that your FICO, or is that a FAKO? I was approved for $2200 in Nov when my TU FICO was in the high 600s.
EQ FICO 750 | TU FICO 761 (Walmart) | EX FAKO 767 | Goal: 800+

Hello, and welcome to the forums!

Yes, that is a very low starting CL with that kind of score. As was already asked, is that a true FICO score? Where did you get it?

Re: Barclays rewards card

Hello,

I called them back and they told me I have a limited credit history. I have 2 cards, a chase card that was opened and well maintained 12 years ago and a bank of america secured card from about 6 months ago. No late payments and low utl.

I basically stepped out of using credit for awhile until I got that bofa secured card. I read on here that I should have at least 6 months history before I try to apply for anything.

Like I said, I was initially denied but got approved only after calling in. Both the analysists told me that my credit has a limited history but the score is very high. Odd combination.

Well, that makes a little more sense. Good score, but thin file. Give it time and treat your new cards well, and you may be able to get CLIs on them. Eventually, you can expect to get bigger CLs when you apply for other cards in the future.

Thanks for the information. This forum is definitely helping me a lot with credit questions.

Re: Barclays rewards card

I was in the same boat as you last year. I had a thin, put perfect, file and couldnt get cards from BoA or Citi and the denial reasons were lack of credit references.

So I went ahead and got a Cap 1 card for average credit, payed on time for 6 months, then right after that I was able to reach my goals. Just in the last month I have got Discover More - 5,500 CL and Chase United Explorer 6,200 CL.

Just garden for 6 months and you should be able to get what you want, or ask for a CLI on your card.

Re: Barclays rewards card

So should I apply for another card or is that a bad move? I feel like my overall CL is low(1300).

I was thinking of applying for AMEX Green but have no idea if I'd get approved.

Or possibly just inflating my CL on my secured card? Would that help if I wanted to apply for another card?
