Know that one should be grateful anytime a lender gives a CLI, but find myself kinda disappointed with increase given on Apple Rewards card. Have had card for 6 months, put on card $1000 per month and paid in full each month, and Barclays decided all I was eligible for was $650. Know I don't have a right to complain, but this saddens me. Called in and spoke with a credit specialist, and although I have 3 years perfect payment history, she kept pointed back to 09-10 when I had my credit problems. Important lesson learned for me, and as the card is paid in full, it will be put in a sock drawer and brought out every couple of months and I will purchase something between 10-20 dollars, pay it off, and put it back in the sock drawer. Had hoped that this would be a good beginning, but maybe not. Alright-my pitty, patty, party is over with now. Thanks for listening. ![]()
Barclays likes usage. Barclays also likes you to carry a balance for larger increases. Naturally that is not a financially sound thing to do (carry balances). Consider calling a different analyst at Barclays to get additional insight. They aren't all the same.
Unfortunately Barclays is notorious for being overly picky too often and have a solid reputation for playing many cardholders CHEAP.
As mentioned you have to call into them and jockey some back n forth conversation and hope that they offer you the right advice needed for a potention better limit.
Barclay's is just known to be cheap with CL's unless you carry balances and use them heavily! They are in no hurry to hand out the biggest CL's of your lenders as they prefer to play it safe and profit as the same time

Thank StartingOver for your reply. I'll lick my wounds today, and call back in tomorrow. I guess I should expect that I'll still be considered a "deadbeat" until my charge offs fall off. Doesn't matter that I paid off my collections, just that I got them to begin with. Live to fight another day, right?

If the APR on the card wasn't so bad, I might carry a balance, but I guess they aren't getting enough off of me on the swipe fees. Maybe I'll find a different rep that isn't so condescending...LOL.

For some of us, $1k a month is heavy usage. I'm only carrying balances on cards that provide 0% promotional financing. Had hoped that by using it, I could get an increase sufficient to purchase a MacBook, but I'll wait till after Xmas and buy it on my new QS since I have 0% financing until Sept. (by the way, thank CC couldn't have got the Venture and QS without you
)

OP, did Barclay do an HP when you requested your CLI?
The sad thing is that I opened a card with them back in May. They gave me $2K and I wasn't really thrilled about it, and put it in my Cigar Humider "Sock Drawer". I used the card a few times to buy something at Home Depot and lunch, then paid in full. To my surprise they did an auto increase in November to $8K. I have a few cards that act like Barclay in your situation, so I totally understand the frustration.
No. It was an auto increase as the 7th statement has posted but I called in to see if that amount could be increased but that was when I had the conversation about my bad history.
