Hi all,
The 2 oldest cards on my credit history are AU cards, including the Chase Amazon Visa that I use practically on a weekly basis. The Chase card currently has a 13 year history. My concern is that there will be a day when I will no longer be able to be an AU on tbe card, so I'm thinking I should remove myself from the account and apply for the same card as a Primary. I read that some cards will allow you to be have the same card as a Primary and AU, but unfortuantely Chase is sensitive to this and will deny you if you have it already as an AU. If anyone has a different experience with Chase, please let me know.
Would you guys agree to go forward with cancelling the AU, and signing as primary to start building history with it? This is something I'll wait 6 months to a year to do before applying since I just had a recent app spree. Thank you.
I suppose that you could ask the primary cardholder to remove you as AU, then say a month later after the AU status drops from your CRA report go ahead and apply. If approved congratulations, if not you can always be added back as an AU and try again next year.
I have a Chase Amazon as an AU and also as primary. I also have a Chase Freedom and FU as both primary and AU. So I don't think Chase cares about AU cards except when counting towards 5/24.
If I remember correctly, you went on a spree not long ago, so a lot of Chase cards will be out of reach because of 5/24, but the Amazon card is not included. However, after adding all those new cards, I don't know what your chances are of getting it because of all the new accounts. If you're not approved, I'm almost certain it won't be because of your Amazon AU card or 5/24, but recent new accounts and inquiries.
Being an authorized user does not prevent you from being able to be the primary account holder on the same product. My CSP was recently upgraded to CSR, but DW was an AU on my CSP when she got hers and I am an AU on hers. I was an AU on her Slate (now CFU) when I got my own Slate (now closed). I continue to get "green check mark offers" (essentially guaranteed approvals) from Chase for the CFU even though I am an AU on DW's and DW continues to get those offers from Chase for the Freedom even though she is an AU on mine.
The only obstacles to a Chase card are your own credit profile and whether you have opened 5 or more credit cards (including any you have been added as an AU on) in the past 24 months for the cards that have that rule (all core cards and many of the cobranded ones).
I thought that if an AU tradeline puts you over 5/24, you'd be auto-denied by Chase's system but can still recon by phone to remove that AU TL from consideration? Or is that not a thing anymore?
If an AU tradeline puts you at 5/24, there have been numerous reports of them not considering that one upon reconsideration. YMMV.

Yes! This is what I was looking forward to know. Thank you. And yes you're right, I did go through a spree recently so I'm planning to hold off for 6-12 months before applying for the Chase Amazon as a primary. Several sites state that it is not affected by the 5/24 rule so the only thing that should hold me back from being approved is all the recent apps.
Thank you all for your responses. This forum is really great!
