Best Buy...Home Improvement?

I wanted to buy appliances from Best Buy? Does this get the 5% for Discover this quarter?

I called and asked two Discover reps. One said yes and the other said no. Said it would code as "department store". Anyone have any experience with this? If it does code as department, AMEX BCE should give me 3% back, right?

Re: Best Buy...Home Improvement?

I can almost guarantee you that it doesnt code as a home improvement store.  Pretty sure its listed as electronics store

Shucks, I'm buying $2000 worth of appliances and accessories. They will surely improve my home!

You think it will code as department store? AMEX gives 3% for that.

Re: Best Buy...Home Improvement?

Disregard the second question. Didn't see your answer(that it's electronic).

Yeah, I checked a Visa supplier list and thats how it was listed.  I did add that in after an edit so that's why you missed it,

No Home depot or Lowes around you?  Usually they will do a price match if they have same items.

Thanks Irish80!

Guess I'll use my Discover and get back 1%. My double cash promo was up in June.

Re: Best Buy...Home Improvement?

Home Depot is closest. I checked all 3 stores. While the prices are the same, Best Buy has no shipping costs for my items. Home Depot wanted $75 shipping on EACH item. Also, I didn't see the gas dryer I wanted at Home Depot.

I applied for for the Best Buy Visa yesterday and was instantly approved for $4000. Was going to take advantage of the 18 month financing. However, will put it on Discover and get my $20 cash back as they just gave me a 0% APR period for 12 months and I'll have it paid off by then. I also have a 20,000 Discover limit.

Re: Best Buy...Home Improvement?

Not a bad choice to do it that way. That Best Buy financing can be tricky for some anyway.
