Go to is Fidelity visa.

A little OT: my default non-category card is also the Fidelity Visa.   When I used it at the dentist yesterday, the receptionist said that she manually keyed in the numbers, because "For some reason, the chip on Fidelity cards never work in my machine".    So I guess at least at that dentist, Fidelity cards are common enough for her to induce, rightly or wrongly, a failure pattern!

Just to be different, a vote for the Consumers Credit Union Visa.   Not a particularly great card in itself (a standard 3% up to 6K on groceries/2% gas/1% others) but combined with their Reward Checking account,  enables you to earn $600+ a year extra, apart from any rewards from the card.

Re: Best CC's?

Overwhelmingly Discover It, for the 5% rotating categories, the occasional "just for you" bonuses, and the great customer service.

If my small town grocery store took Amex, I'd join the crowd in liking the BCE, but since it doesn't I'll choose CapOne Quicksilver as my next favorite card.

Re: Best CC's?

I have different favorites for different categories:

(1) APR+Rewards combined:  BEFCU Platinum Plus VISA:  as low as 4.99% F plus rewards.  Also PACU MC as low as 7.5% F plus rewards (7.75% F for new apps).  IMO, just about the closest thing to theoretical "perfect" ccs since they have ultra-low, fixed-rate APRs together with rewards programs.  It's close to or nearly impossible AFAIK to find hardly any other fixed rate cards with rewards in today's cc environment (that are still open to new apps and without geo restrictions).  PACU is open to anyone who wants to app, and I was able to to apply and get approved for BEFCU even with the listed geo restrictions; hopefully others who are interested will be able to as well. Also IIRC, neither card has any BT or cash advance fees.

(2) Rewards(a) Cap1 NHM MC - operates just like a Venture with 2% cashback an all purchases and redeemable at full 2% for travel, for me with no AF, and no minimum redemption thresholds (sadly no longer available for new apps); (b) US Bank Cash+ allows me to select two 5% cashback categories that are available all-year-round, which in mho is better than 5% cashback cards that have rotating quarterly 5% categories that cannot be reselected the next quarter.  (c) FNBO Amex Travelite:  3% cashback on travel and 1.5% cashback on everything else, no AF and 100 dollar annual travel incidentals credit, among other things (the AF-free version is no longer available to new apps).  (d) Blispay:  for the 2% cashback plus ongoing 6-mo. 0% promos on purchases over 199 dollars.  (e) BBR for obvious reasons  Smiley Happy  Also unfortunately no longer accepting new apps.

(3) Misc. Faves(a) BoA Cash Rewards WMC:  the version of the card I have has a fixed APR of 9.99% F plus 3-2-1 rewards, PC'd from a BoA Platinum Plus card I got in 2007.  (b) Unify FCU Fixed-Rate Platinum VISA:  as low as 8.99% F APR, no BT fees.  (c) Unify FCU Variable-Rate Platinum VISA: as low as 5.99% V APR.

ETA:  Edits / Adds / Corrections - sorry for the earlier accidental typos Smiley Embarassed

Re: Best CC's?

Currently I only carry two cards- US Bank Cash+ which gives me 5.5% on fast food and department stores and 2.5% on groceries (I'm still on my first year with them) and my Discover it, which I use for pretty much everything else (still in the cashback match period). Once my discover turns one year old, I'll probably add a double cash.

Re: Best CC's?

Sapphire Preferred for dining and travel

BoA AAA Rewards for Costco/Pharmacy

The AMEX twins pick up grocery/gas

Chase FU has been picking up the remainder that doesn't fit into a Discover 5% category.

Paypal 2% MC is on my radar after the current bunch hits 2 years old.
