Ok so his one score was middle 600 which is great he actually only had 1 in Collection from 2014 or earlier sorry I'm trying to go all by memory right now but he applied for a few Cards, Citi, Discover (Both said No-Go) and one Capital One (instead of doing the prequal to see what all cards he qualified for he accidently shot his shot at the Platinum by Capital One and was approved for 300.     Probably because the car we originally got financed for was under Cap One originally.      Sooooo YAY!!!     My question is since I don't have any experience with Capital One well their cards...he says he can't ask for a CLI for at least 5 months I know of course you want to wait 6 months to ask for your soft increase or whatever like a regular card but if he wanted to call and see if he can get his original SL increased is it possible to ask that right when it arrives in the mail or is this one of those cards that he has to wait it can't be helped situations.?!

Looks as if he got into the Cap1 Credit steps. If memory serves me right they will allow for an auto CLI after 3-5 billing cycles/payments (one of these). Mine went from $300 to $500 at that time after I carefully managed the account and PIF before statement cut date. They also allowed me to switch to thier Platinum version of their QS1 card at that time. I kept that for a year and upgraded to the QS card with no AF. My card eventually capped out at $8k and had a horrible 27+% apr with no AF. Something they would never negotiate with even after 4 years of PIF and not one late. I would eventually use it to pay for my Uber rides only and I don't ride Uber much. This card was closed just after year 4 statement date.

Good luck!

Yes this is Def. just to get things started, foot in the door so to speak for my DH so we will build it until we don't see any more improvement and of course add cards he actually wants in a year or two Smiley Very Happy

Hey, Girlzilla.  Not for nothing, but after reading your initial post, the first thing that struck me was that you're engaged to the guy and you didn't know anything about his credit history and were worried about being "nosey"?  The only bad vice is advice, but here's some relationship advice of both the unsolicted and personal variety (from someone who found out the hard way).  Open communication and honesty builds trust.  Most relationships are destroyed because of the lack of those things.  Not openly discussing finances now, specifically, may end up being a big problem later (believe me, I know).  Think about it, you stated you don't trust him as an authorized user on any of your accounts now.  No disrespect, but doesn't that sound like a problem already?  On it's face, it appears the two of yous need to have a sit down and be honest with each other about a thing or three?  Best!

Not sure if I missed it but if you both have not as yer, I would think about finding a good local credit union to join.  The good ones are always nice to have before you need them.  If you find one that you think may work, call them and ask about rates and about their CC's.  (Find one that issues their own cards, not Elan backed cards).  This CU could be right there for you in the future for CC. auto, mortgage, who knows.

Good luck.

Re: Best Credit card for First Card/Building (not secured unless we just have to)

My DH bless him is not about Communication BUT he is actually opening up more and more to me this is not new news to me so it doesn't bother me that he doesn't when he is making progress I didn't want him or shall I say I don't mind him being an AU as long as I can be sure to monitor it so I can make plans/payments accordingly that is all I ment by that not that I would never want him as one.    We are working on ourselves (I just started a few years before) so I can help him through it and thus we are here.   Smiley Happy
