Agreed, but if it's  possible you'll be carrying a balance, that 16.24% tier 1 APR is pretty meh (Venture tier 1 is 13.74% right now, the best of the big bank travel cards.)

I did not realize the Venture has the best APR. I never look at APR or BT's because I don't carry balances. But for someone who does carry a balance the APR would be something to consider.

Re: Best Travel Reward Card

Taekwon - you touched on a concern I have about Cap1 cards.  I've read mixed reviews about the ease of use of their cards, generally, outside the U.S.  I'm considering applying for the Venture card and am thrown by 1. the mixed word on the street about ease of use/acceptance outside U.S. and 2. the lack of a Visa/MC badge on the Venture card itself.  When you say you have never had issues, you mean that literally?  Restaurants, shopping, attractions, hotels outside the U.S. widely accept Venture/Cap1 cards for payment without an issue? Thanks much!!!

In my experience two years ago when I had to use the card in Europe I had no issues using my QS over there and it was ideal since all CapOne cards have no FTFs. I called to put a travel notice to be safe on the card even though they told me it was not necessary and had no problems using the card for my purchases.

Re: Best Travel Reward Card

Terrific!  No FTF's is why I zero'd in on the Cap1 Venture product.  As in new restaurant choices, getting firsthand experience is invaluable...thanks a bunch!

Yes, literally no issues. I used my platinum MC extensively in Europe without issues and when I received my Venture, again flawless transactions. I am now in SE Asia and I use my venture every chance I get. I received instant notifications for every transaction.

As for the logo Not being displayed on the front of the card, no problem in Europe, you very rarely hand your card to a teller. Her in Asia you most always hand your card to a teller. The lack of a logo will confuse some tellers and they give you a blank stare, because they’re not sure it’s a CC due to the absence of the logo. I just say Visa, they run the card…approved…all good! That happens about once a week because they’re not use to seeing a CC without a logo on the front, has nothing to do with the operation of the card though.

Also, the rewards are easy to redeem

All of cap1 cards do not charge FTF, not even the secured cards.

Re: Best Travel Reward Card

I don't see how the lack of a badge would be a problem. Just stick it in the machine. As long as it says "approved" who cares what it looks like?

Yep... the Capital One cards without the Visa/MasterCard logo on the front still have it on the back - if anybody has a question just have them flip the card over.  Smiley Happy

Re: Best Travel Reward Card

For all around general purpose travel card, get the Chase CSP or the BA Premium Reward if you bank with BA.  Watch your AF and do not be tied with any hotel or airline.

Yes, I tried that but most people can't read English here. But they do understand when they hear the word visa.
