Could you imagine if they started calling all the folks that snaked by 5/24 using the in branch method?  I think the credit community might implode.

Interesting stuff for sure.  I appd 8/15 during that small window.  Appd online and was insant approved and was 8-9/24.

That said I will be cautious to say the least when I finally get my card and activate.

I agree the meldown will be something else.  However, if Chase branches are approving people in their offices then their lending department should abide by them and not close them.

It is not the customers fault that they got pre-approved.  If that is their concern then they should not allow people with more accounts in the 24 months to be pre-approved in the branches. It is unfair to the customers.

Agree completely.  Complete b.s. IMHO.  My head would explode if that happened to me.

Agree the same.  I was truly 100% ready to see a 'DECLINED' message when I appd online.  So after taking a HP on both EX and EQ I will be pissed if that is what comes here.

It doesn't seem very different from the threads where people are approved for lots of cards and then get shut down very soon after.   And then ask "Why did they approve me if...."  The approving groups and risk management groups are different with different criteria (of course, in a perfect world would be the same).  Not saying it's a good model or experience, but fairly common here!

Fortunately, seems like the OPs friend is an exception.

The AMEX 100k clawback is a prime example of this.

Needlessly fueling speculation - it does seem suspect that people who should have their cards by now, don't.  A lot of reports of expedited shipping and no UPS notifications.  Although, this could be a backlog because of the popularity, and at the same time, people that were approved on Sunday in branch and Monday morning in branch haven't received their cards yet, and others that applied later, have.

Hey guys. No this was a different friend than the discover fiasco for those who asked it

Honestly I think I steered some of my closest friends wrong with my own credit obsession leading to their "failures" lol. Perhaps !

I don't know his overall exposure but i know it isn't insanely high. Probably 100-150k which Is farrrr lower than many here with way less income.

All I know is this method may or may not continue to work. Chase lending can be very volatile and hard to deal with Ive found, or they can be amazing. Luck of draw.

Your friends must have really bad luck[s] to constantly keep getting their accounts closed. Hopefully, he/she was just an anomaly in this CSR saga.

Seems like Joeys run of bad luck in the past has rubbed off on his friends.

Hopefully your friend He/she is running into some bad luck and this is just an isolated incident and nobody else will experience this.

Re: Best friend approved for CHASE CSR in branch, then CLOSED

I have no problem at all with the 5/24 rule, after all it's Chase's business and credit much like your drivers license is a privilege and not a right. I do however wish they bring some clarity to the rule. There are constant questions from people asking what cards are part of it what cards aren't? does the rule apply to in branch applications? and so on and so forth. There is always speculation about this or that and if you ask someone at the branch they have no idea what your talking about, and calling Chase isn't much better. It's sad, you learn more about chase from this forum and all of the data points, then you can from chase themselves. Like I said, I have no problem with 5/24, just the way they go about implementing it. Cut the crap chase and educate your people and don't cancel cards because the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Sorry for the rant.

Chase (or any creditor) is very unlikely to come out and publically state their underwriting criteria like that, especially since realistically 5/24 doesn't impact the general public. Most people get one or two cards and stick with them for a long long time.
