Re: Best reloadable cards

I do not belive that reloadable debit cards have anything to do with credit.

Re: Best reloadable cards

I assume OP is referring to reloadable Visa or MCs.  But, yeah, technically they are not 'credit cards'.  I can't imagine one being much better or worse than another.  Pick the one with the lowest of the high fees?  dunno!

Everyday 5% CB:
Chase prime Visa // citi CUSTOM CASH “A” // citi CUSTOM CASH “B” // citi CUSTOM CASH “C” // citi ThankYou (5% gas, lucrative spending offers) // mylowe’s Rewards // Target circle card

Rotating 5% CB:
Chase “OG” freedom Visa // DISCOVER it Cash Back // nusenda CU Platinum Cash Rewards

Everyday 4% CB:
US Bank Smartly (v1.0)

Everyday 3% / 2.2% CB:
AOD FCU Visa Signature (3%, sockdrawered) // upgrade Cash Rewards Elite (2.2%, sockdrawered)

Welcome Offer / credits only:

On my radar:
Langely FCU Signature Cash Back (5% CB monthly selectable cat) // Safe CU Cash Back+ (Quarterly rotating 5% CB cats plus bonus cats) // upgrade MyFive Cash Rewards (5% CB monthly selectable cat) // US Bank Kroger (and family) World Elite Master Card(s) (5% CB Mobile Wallet)

Right, for normal use, the question would come to two fees:

a) is there a monthly fee

b) and how much does it cost to reload at a convenient place (and what methods, such as cash or debit card are available)

So Bluebird is free at Family Dollar which is great if that is near you, but $3.74 at Walmart and up to $3.95 elsewhere.

The serve card Serve® | Flexible Debit Card Options has a different set up options, e.g. monthly fee but free reloads, and one with a per transaction fee.

And many other issuers.

So really depends on how you plan to use it.

I wonder what the ben's of a reloadable card is vs a secured card?

Well, in the case of bluebird they really are minimal.   If you get the card online, reload at family dollar and use in-network ATMs, you won't be paying fees.

They really serve different needs, reloadable cards don't build credit history.   OTOH, if you can't get a secured card, you can get a reloadable, and use it for things that tend to demand cards, such as hotels or car rentals.

Reloadable cards are actually a bad idea, they sound good but far from it. They decline frequently and fees are ridiculous. You are much better off with gift card that works with VISA/MC/AMEX!

Re: Best reloadable cards

I'm having a difficult time understanding why someone would opt for a reloadable card versus using either a debit card or a secured credit card (or both).

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!
