Best way to apply for Amex AU

What you're describing here sounds like Amex. I was an AU on my father's Amex when I was young and Amex said he defaulted and they tried to sue him but lost. Strangely, Amex did a poor job of record keeping and that is why they lost in court. Last year I applied with Amex and they approved me. I still think the OP has no reason not to try. This will let us know how long Amex keeps their records.

Thats sucks...like they thought you had a big red A on your forehead and someone would associate that with the....(shakes head) even though you weren't responible for the bill

On another note, the fine print does state that Amex can go after AUs for their charges.  Any charges during the BK period would be hard to collect.

Hmm, so it might be my bad credit and not my old AU default that is the problem?

Maybe I'm remembering wrong and i got an amex but I sincerely doubt it. If so I'd assume they have that info even though it is 24 years old. The good news on that I guess is I could Oasis that, but event then my credit sucks.

Would it make sense for me to wait for AU attempt until I finish my dispute/removes, most of that to be done by mid/late January? If I do an AU now and get denied because of soft-pull credit and not defaulted AU, can I re-AU apply in late Jan after credit is better?

If you app'd did they give you a reason for the decline?  They have no problem saying 'old bad account' or whatever.

No I didn't 'apply' yet. My parents are set to call, I'm just worried that if they DO decline because of bad credit (collections) via possible soft-pull, that I can't re-apply for AU again in Jan/Feb when some/most of those are cleaned (deleted and/or paid in full). In other words do I have anything to lose by asking folks to do AU request on me now with bad credit, or can I simply give it a shot and not hurt my chances if I need to re-request AU status once report is ok?

may I ask why you want to be just an auth. on an amex when it's not going to help your credit.

I thought an AU on Amex would be good for credit (since they report, I checked both my sisters credit reports and they are listed as AU with the entire 36 year history)

You know I just dont' remember anymore. Either I was an AU on that card or I had my own (it was a long time ago). They had some special offers on some big ticket items and I was young/stupid. I'm guessing as I re-think it it must have been mine only because otherwise my folks would have had to pay for it and I'm sure I would not have forgotten that fight.
