Better Balance Rewards APR Reduction?

I called a Retention line last night where i have had great success with my Cash Rewards when no one else could lower the rate so i thought i would try to get my apr lowered on my Better Balance Rewards card and i spoke with a nice Retention rep who reviewed and seen my nice payment history and things and said she didn't know why she didn't have an offer for me so she placed me on hold...... she then came back and said it was becasue of the Rewards structure and ohw easy it is to get rewards, while i was chatting with her i signed off my account and went to their card applications and pulled up the rates for new applications and i pointed out to her that it says the rates go from 11.99% to 21.99% after their promo and my rate is 21.99% and she said it may go down over time but at this time she can't offer my a lower rate.

Has anyone has success talking to a different department other than the EO for an apr reduction on this specific card?, I don't feel i need to talk to them about this as the Retention rep was very nice and explaining things where as before when i contacted them was becasue of attitude/rudeness i had gotten from a credit rep.

Should i contact a credit analyst for this?  Any thoughts would be helpful!

Re: Better Balance Rewards APR Reduction?

5 point reduction down from 17.99 by calling the number on the back of the card.

In addition to payment history, they may also consider overall profile when evaluating risk. Incidentally, are you paying 10% or more of outstanding balance each statement period, this may help ensure an excellent repayment score.

Of course APR is a non issue while on 0 promo or a PIF card holder.

Perhaps try again going forward, until then, can just continue not to carry a non-zero balance.

Even had I got the lowest offered, at 11.99 the card essentially remains a PIF product. Regardless, also prefer having the lowest rate available when possible.

Re: Better Balance Rewards APR Reduction? Update!

*** Update ***

So i decided to try again for the APR reduction, so this time I called Fia Card Services at 800-655-1491 and a very nice rep answered and i actually think she was in india which seemed a lil odd, anyway i asked her for a lower apr and she said i'm in luck and she will transfer me to an account specialist who can provide me options, so while waiting on hold for a lil i was thinking to myself that this feels like CapOne where they use certin phrases to make you feel prequalified and then they transfer you..... LOL.... anyway....

A very nice guy here in the USA answered and i asked for the lower rate he checked and said he can offer to go from 21.99% to 18.99% and i was wow that's awesome, so he read all the disclosures and i agreeed and the new apr takes place in a few days as my cycle is just about to end. After he applied that I asked him how all of a sudden i was eligable now rather than a few days ago and how i was told that becasue of my rewards structure i had the most current rate available?.... he didn't have an exact answer but he said the credit analysts and the stratagy departments set the rate offers for the accounts and he said how when they review especialy with rewards cards they like to see spending pattern and payment history.. He even told me i should call back again in 6 months to have it lowered again!

It pays to never give up! I have done so well here lately, and i thank everyone here at myfico for all of the help and wisdom and giving me the courage to get things fixed and never give up, it's a sprint, not a race, good things come to those who wait as credit building takes time, for the most part there are no shortcuts, though with all the credit i have and all the things i got done recently i feel like i have taken alot of shortcuts and got very lucky. Thanks everyone Smiley Very Happy

Re: Better Balance Rewards APR Reduction? Update!

I got my APR down to 10.99% from 15.99% by calling the number on the back of the card. I was transferred to a credit analyst who reviewed payment history and asked about my other cards. I've had the card for just over a year and waited until the 0% intro period was over before calling.
