Better to apply for SPG not as a current AMEX cardmember?

I noticed when going to the SPG application that if you say that you are a current cardmember, the 15,000 point bonus for spending $5000 in 6 months disappers, and only the 10,000 signup bonus is still there. Anybody know why this is? Is it bad to say I'm not a current cardmember even though I am?

You might as well be honest because they will certainly find out! Good luck!

Meg.

I can't see how they wouldn't figure it out pretty quickly.

Current Cards: AMEX Everyday ($15k), AMEX BCE ($20k), Amex Platinum, Arrival ($11.5k), Merrill+ ($7.5k), Freedom ($5k), Double Cash ($6.5k)

They would figure out you're a current member of course, but they may still honor the higher promotion if you apply from a link the shows the higher promotion.  When I applied and received my BCP, I thought I'd be eligible for the 150 cash back promo, but since I applied from a "current member" link on the Amex site, I didn't get the cash back.  When I called about this, the rep I spoke to said the cash back wasn't part of "my offer," or words to that effect, but she also said I could cancel the card and reapply, and then possibly be eligible for the 150.00.  I decided I didn't want to cancel the card since I'd worked so hard at getting it, so I said "forget it" to the extra cash.

My point is - when you apply, try to apply from a link that shows the offer you want.

There are links out there that still offer the 25k without specifying whether or not it's for new members only.

AMEX: Platinum - NSL | Gold - NSL | BBP - $30k | Everyday - $22k
Chase: CSP - $10k | Freedom UL - $3k
Citi: Costco - $11.2k | Penfed: PCR - $20k | Apple: $13.5k

Apply on spg.com. It doesn't say anything about current Amex non spg cardholders not being eligible for the extra 15k points, but I had to fight for mine after being approved.

When I use this application page in an incognito window, it gives me the 25k offer.

I applied on a browser that I never had logged into my account it displayed 25k and I still didn't get the right bonus without calling.

Well the application is for 25k that's not the problem, it's when you click current card member for the shorter application. That's when it takes it away.

So, don't click.
