I'm getting conflicting information on this and was wondering if anyone here can confirm this...
Does BoA Cash Rewards World MC have cell phone protection?
A couple of websites have this listed as a card that carries it, but I called BoA benefits support and the guy had no idea, stating that he didn't see it as a perk. So if I can't get confirmation from BoA, then where does this info come from? Would this be something I would have to submit directly with Mastercard?
The websites that came up under my google search state: Up to $600 per claim; $1,000 max per 12-month period; $50 deductible
I also wonder, since I got my card in March 2019 and phone protection was intoduced to World & World Elite MC in mid-late 2019, maybe I'm not grandfathered in?
I'm thinking its offered on Visa signature cards, but varies by issuer. It may be the same for MC. The issuer should know, unfortunately your CSR had no idea.
I consider it in stone when my credit card agreement says its included, like my Propel agreement says. You may need a mulligan to find out and call to another CSR that might know the answer.
Most products that have a benefit is made clear in their marketing materials. If it's not clear, you'll need to check, and most likely not offered.
So just for anyone who might want to know....
I was able to get in touch with a Mastercard rep who made it clear that the issuer (Bank of America) did NOT support the phone protection perk on their World/ World Elite CashRewards card. So don't believe the inept column writers who have stated this.

I agree. If they provide a benefit, you can be sure it will be touted in their literature, the website, on your statement, etc. I see it with Propel. If it's not available, you have to put a lot of effort to find it, and if you still can't find it, its probably not there.

Right, but, IMO, some blame lies with the Mastercard site, that cites all the benefits of WEMC including cell phone protection. Like Visa Sig, there is language that not all benefits may apply to each card, but easy to miss. The levels really don't mean much unless there is a core set of benefits that MUST be offered.

I remember reading the fine print on either MC or Visa stating not all banks offer the benefit, check with the bank.
I read the fine print, maybe most people do not.
Check here: https://us.mycardbenefits.com/FileAClaim/FileAClaim?cd=en&prog=cel
Enter your card number as if to start a claim and see if it says the card is eligible.
It worked a few months ago with my Aviator (but not Savor or DC). I have since closed it and don't have an eligible card, so can't confirm that it currently works.

Good for you! But my point is more.... what is the point of the MC site. Each card has its own set of non-MC benefits, e.g. DC giving 2%. And then each WEMC MIGHT have some of the listed MC benefits, or might not. So just look at the bank site, and not the MC site as it contains (almost) no actionable information

Blanket marketing. It is misleading, making it appear that the benefit applies to all cards.
Mastercard and Visa do their own marketing. Because many of their cards will have the benefit, they include it in their marketing.
But still, if I'm applying for a Visa signature card through Chase, looking for cell phone coverage, I'd go over all the benefits of the Chase Visa signature card to make sure it was there. I know not everyone does that.
It took me 5 minutes to click the Accept button for the CFU I just got, making sure everything I expected to be there was included with no surprises.
It takes me forever to click a button when the result of doing so will have a fairly large impact.

I suspect we basically agree, but if applying for a card I go ONLY to the bank site and do the checking. Actually, if I hadn't seen links on here it would never have occured to me to go to the Mastercard site and potentially get misled!
Old-timers: from what I recall, certainly with Visa, there was a time where a set of basic protections (such as rental CDW ) WAS a basic part on all cards of that class, and bank opt-outs (or rather, bank deciding not to opt-in) is somewhat newer in the last few years. Agree?
