I have been struggling with the BOA CR credit card for some time. The rewards program is not geared towards high dollar spending. Once you hit the dollar limit for your 3% category, everything goes to 1% for the remainder of the quarter. I also noticed that everything in my wallet seems to be a Visa and I really want to get a high CL mastercard (my current mastercard is 22k with USB, but, going to Capital One, so that idea is out). I called BoA today to see if I could convert my CCR to their Bankamericard so I could get a high CL mastercard. Customer support agent was very friendly and once I told her that I was more interested in a Mastercard, she told me she could just convert my CCR Visa to a CCR Mastercard. I told her to go ahead and she submitted the request.
I had no idea that BoA would change networks for their Visa cards.
Yup. Been there done that, have one of each 😁 the Visa is useful for Costco, since the grocery category on that card includes wholesale clubs, while the MC works with Curve (which is currently limited to MC and Discover CCs).
Could someone enlighten me on why a BOA CCR Mastercard would be better than a Visa?
No real difference other than the network. It's the same rewards program, with one card using Visa, and the other using Mastercard. It is my (and others) personal preference to carry cards that utilize different networks.
I PC'd my BankAmericard MC to Custom Cash, and asked them if during the PC they would also make it a Visa. They said yes, but when the new Custom Cash card came, it was still an MC - with the same number. I didn't bother calling about it, because it actually was convenient not to have to change numbers to make it a Visa.
@calisigHow long did it take them to get your card to you after you did the pc?

it seemed like a long time - at least two weeks - probably more like three weeks - but I wasn't using the card, so it didn't matter.
I don't really care for BofA. The only reason I ended up with a BankAmericard is because BofA acquired my account from another bank through one of the banking "bailouts." It's my second oldest card, so I needed to use it to avoid adverse action for non-usage. I PC'd it for groceries and online shopping when not covered by an existing or future rotator, but I will be adding another card for groceries - so BofA will remain low usage. At least I should be able to avoid adverse action ...
