Recently noticed a blue 'Request ... ' link on my BoA MC account -- possibly the result of a TU hop from 778 to 794 . The card currently has a 12K line (and an obnoxious 21% APR).
Anyone know whether the request triggers a hard pull, soft pull, or if it's YMMV?
Back story -- about 6 months ago, I was logging out of BoA when a message displayed essentially asking whether I wanted to apply for an increase for my Visa, and stating that it'd be a soft pull. [Is there a downside here?] Went from 10K to 14K in the blink of an eye (bringing my max total credit with BoA to 26K).
Fast forward a few months ... we've refi'd the mortgage, and obtained a home equity loan, a condition of which required that I close the BoA Visa account. Not an issue -- we want the extension, so I close the card (tho' closing an 18-year-old account, my oldest, did sting).
Dunno if any of that matters -- but I do know that my credit record will not sustain any further hard pulls for a while.
Insight welcome.

As a rule of thumb assume all CLI requests from BofA are HPs. On a rare occasion we get people who report SP CLIs but again it's very rare that it happens; believe you have to have the prompt come up from BofA like your previous experience to get the SP. Having said that if you have the credit profile to back it up the HPs are generally worth it. Just make sure to shoot for the moon with your request and let them match or counter you.
BoA invite for CLI or automatic CLI: SP
BoA link to request CLI: HP
These are pretty hard and fast rules, with little to no deviation.
Definately a HP, normally with TU.
Some do get a special pass on the SP thing but that's very rare.
If you read the language before submitting a CLI it clearly states they will pull a report.
However, I have done it twice and honestly it was very much worth it!
I started with 5000 and then asked for 15k they gave me 10100. Then I asked 20k and got 17200.
Each were 3 months apart. By 6 months I more than tripled my line.

Those are the exact limits and increases I received. Your next will most likely be $24 or $25k.

Thats great news! What did you put down for requesting amount? 30k?
It's been a while since I got that increase. I believe it was $25k I requested. The increase wasn't exactly $25k. It was similar to the other CLs $24xxx. I'd have to dig up a TU report to find the exact number. I opened another BOA card 13 months ago. And evened out the limits after requesting CLIs on both. BOA likes to give those odd CL for some unknown reason. lol
It was something like $24,200 or similar.
wrong, wrong.i always get sp from them on new cards and cli.its a secret/trick.
Definitely a hard pull, although they are typically fairly generous if your profile supports it. Don't hear of many disappointing $500 HP CLIs from BOA, unlike say, Chase or Barclay can tend to do at times.
