BoA limits number of CCs for students

Just learned something today after I got off the phone with BoA recon and thought I would share with you guys. It turns out that if you're a student then Bank of America restricts the number of cards you can have with them. For college students, that limit is 1; for graduate students, the limit is 2. After you graduate is when the limit shall be lifted.

Anyway kinda bummed but just thought I'd share!

How do they know if you're a student though? Is it because you put down student on your credit card app?

I have a core checking with them with a student waiver, and I have 3 BOA cards.

Re: BoA limits number of CCs for students

I put down student on my app, but did not apply for the "for students" version. Two reasons: 1) the students version didn't/doesn't have a 150/500 offer and 2) I've heard issues with CL's and student cards (across various lenders).

I don't have another BofA card on my radar to find out for myself, but I'd like to know which version of cards you're app'ing for.

if they had more tempting products or at least a really good sign-up bonus I would give this a whirl too, but I never put that I am a student because it seems like applications always make you choose between student or employed, and i work full time as well as go to school full time.

Re: BoA limits number of CCs for students

This is an interesting topics.  If you are a 19 year old college student, how do you say what you do?  If you say you are employed, then credit card companies would want to have the income proof.  Certainly if you work full time and go to school part-term, you can do that.  But most of the 19 year old college kids do not work at all.

We could say you work, but there is some limit.  It also depends on the CC bank.

NFCU is the only lender who has ever asked for POI from me, and only for their LOC. However  I'm much older than 19 heh...

Granted every time I've seen the option of reporting as a student, it is an option between that or employed as i mentioned so i just choose employed to avoid complications.
