Bofa removing AF

What are the steps for removing the AF off a card that recently got unsecured? Every CSR I talked to says there is no way to remove the AF even if you PC. Is any of this true?

Re: Bofa removing AF

Wonder what it is that makes BOA decide whether or not to Drop the AF or keep it after graduation, they're being a little inconsistent on this lately.

What worked for me was calling the Backdoor Number; i first tried to lose the AF when i went for a cli after a 2-month early graduation-they told me not now, and to call back after the card was a year old. I also asked an online rep-they said there was no way they could do it, it is tied to the original terms and can't change; you can close and apply for a new card.

After a year was up, i waited for the AF to show up, then i called again (i think i used the # on the card). That guy said he didn't have the power to do anything; so i elevated-the guy came back and said the supervisor would let him waive the fee for the year. But my terms meant it would still be charged every 12 months. next day i had 39.00 credit

I waited two more statements, and called the backdoor number. Right off the bat i explained my situation-the BOA was my oldest card, gets used the most, and seems like a good long term card-but i don't forsee hanging on to it for too much longer in the future if i have to keep paying the AF. The guy didn't fuss, just told me he'd put in a request to have the fee supressed. Next morning i went to check my account fee online, it changed from 39.00 to Zero. i requested a mailed copy of my terms just to make sure, sure enough, no reference to the annual fee anymore.

The regular CSR are usually not going to be much help with BOA.

Re: Bofa removing AF

I got mine removed when i called up for a credit limit increase the same day i got the letter saying my card was upgrading to unsecured. I called 1-800-247-7975. After i got my increase i asked if there was going to still be an annual fee and he said.... " hold on... let me fill out a form for supression "  he submitted it and a day later i logged into my account and it said the annual fee was zero. So I guess we'll see if it stays at zero forever. I did not have to begg or even ask to have it removed the rep just did it after i simply asked if there was still going to be one. Smiley Very Happy

Re: Bofa removing AF

I tried a few times with the backdoor number and everyone told me the same thing. I did get a fee waiver so I might just wait it out a little.

Re: Bofa removing AF

My AF was removed automatically upon graduation. I'm thinking it probably has something to do with how much you use the card. I spent probably $600-$800 a month and made several payments a month always PIF . If you use the card enough to offset their need to charge an AF that probably has a lot to do with it. Just my guess on the subject.

I ran a minimum of $1200/month through mine while it was secured: I used that card for literally everything when it was my only rewards card pre-Amex Zync; I still have an AF.  It's more than just that alone.

Hey Rev...Do you have checking/savings with BOA also? Just trying to figure out a method to their madness. It is a strange oddity that some are removed and some are not...
