So as part of his ongoing app spree, he decided to apply for the Verve Mastercard after recieving an invitation in the mail. When he recieved the card and the terms/conditions, he was somewhat shocked.
Here they are: https://www.yourvervecard.com/Content/PDF/GetTermsAndConditions20150120.pdf
$125 first year, $96 every year after.
$10 monthly maintenance fee, starting with the second year
$5 online account maintenance fee
Fees for paying over the phone
Other fees I don't know about
CreditOne seems like angels compared to this.
I actually had a nice laugh, at least they are nice enough to decline account activation, which means you don't have to pay any fees.
So yeah, do NOT get this card.
UPDATE: The 125$ fee is a MUST, weather the card is activated or not. There is also a $1.27 fee every month for "credit security"..

Why in the world did he apply without knowing what the terms were first?

They did not include the terms and conditions in the invitation to apply, so he thought there are no fees.

I'm sure a bunch of people will dogpile on top of this one, but let this serve as a reminder to anyone:
It behooves one to understand what they are applying for, BEFORE they apply for it.
