Bucket explanation

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but I've been trying to figure out what the FICO buckets are.

It seems to offer a decent explanation.  FYI

Re: Bucket explanation

Handbook of mortgage-backed securities?  How does that apply do the topic at hand?  I'm confused.  Did you post the wrong link?

Re: Bucket explanation

It's in there --it just pops up with the graph page. Arrow back two pages, and there's some text supporting the graph.

It's a bit dated, so I don't know how reliable the numbers are. And I'm a little concerned that it seems to equate buckets with score ranges, whereas there's more going on in bucket assignment than that (length of credit history, presence of a serious derog, and so forth.)

But I completely understand trying to find any explanation! --the whole bucket thing is kind of hard to grasp. I find it easier to think of buckets as credit peer groups, clumps of people with characteristics kind of like your own. You may be in better shape than many of them, or you may be worse off, but you share a lot of characteristics --oldest account 8 - 12 years old and one collection, for instance. (And I am COMPLETELY making up that example!!)

But wow, I have to applaud the tenacity that dug that citation up! And I almost have my head aligned up-and-down again. Smiley Very Happy

You'll make it! DD#2 (the youngest) just started back again today, and she cheerfully told me that her books so far cost "300-something." * sigh *

And we're not done yet, either, I know.

And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid
