CC's after BK

How many of you out there have a card now that you previously included in your BK?  Are there cards out there that people have had balances on took BK and the creditor gave you a card once you were discharged?

Re: CC's after BK

I have an Orchard card (was included in both of my BK's)  but I didn't file on cc debt per say so only had like 2 cards.  Cap One told me to wait until I am discharged to be approved with them but not sure I will need their card by then anyway.

Re: CC's after BK

I know some will forgive and some wont.  I am wondering which ones forgive.  Also If I file, but don't take Target or Merrick are they likely to close my account just because I filed?  I know some CC companies will close you even if you don't have a balance, but which ones wont.

I don't think they well close your account unless you stop paying them.

Re: CC's after BK

the minute any creditor gets wind of your filing, whether you owe a balance or not, they will probably close your account.   I didn' have that many cc included (only orchard but cap 1 filed a claim based on debt discharged in previous chapter 7)

since then I have been able to get

(none included in any of my bk's)

B of A secured
Lowes
Jc Penny
Walmart
Kay's
Super Speedway America (gas)
Hooters
HSBC (orchard)
Kohls
Best Buy

(just closed Credit One, Cor Trust, and Tribute and previouly had First Premier and Legacy, all closed now)

Re: CC's after BK

Actually my sister filed BK and there were several cards that survived that didn't have balances.  Some were closed, but some survived.  I don't have any of the cards that she had that survived, but anyone out there that did file BK and had cards survive I would love to know.

Re: CC's after BK

For me... Capital One.. I had two of their cards that went into BK and now (several
years later).. I have one of their cards again with a $2750 limit.  I also have had two
car loans with them post BK.   HSBC also gave me two cards earlier this year.. and
they too were in my BK.  Oh.. yes, how can I forgot the credit builder card.. First Premier.
I had a few of their cards that went (some with pretty good limits too surprisingly) into
my BK.  Earlier this year, they gave me a new card.. low credit limit .. not really worthy
in light of my other cards with higher limits.   I think that is about it for me.

Thanks Lance, How many years has it been since your BK?  Was it hard to get cards again?

Re: CC's after BK

Hi Jammy.. it has been 3 1/2 years since BK and it wasn't hard to
get the credit builder type cards like First Premier offers... and I have
a Salute and a First National Bank card.. all with smaller limits.  When
I got the Cap 1 in April, that was my first major one with a decent credit
limit.  I am trying so hard to build up my credit scores again.  I got approved
for a Hooters card on line the other day, have no idea what the credit limit
will be on that one... waiting for it to come in the mail.  The department
store cards seem harder to get (at least for me).. I tried Walmart.. denied.
Target and Home Depot, I got the response.. we need further time to process
your application... pretty sure those will be denied also.  Any way... good luck
to you Jammy!   Just keep hammering at it.. don't give up... eventually
things start to come together.
