Re: CC's notorious for generous CLI's

If you have an FNBO card, you may be eligible for SP CLIs on it every 3-4 months, if you call them and ask over the phone (do not request a CLI on the website as it will always be a HP).  I just received a $2k SP CLI on my FNBO Amex very recently in fact, taking it from $4.15k to $6.15k.

While most of them do, sometimes it isn't clear. I think there's a couple of threads here on SP CLIs.

Sureshot way to prevent unwanted HP: freeze your reports. Added benefits : prevent ID theft and drapping.

Re: CC's notorious for generous CLI's

If you freeze your reports (I don't even know how to do this) can a SP still be done just not a HP?  So would the technique be to freeze your reports prior to requesting a CLI and then unfreezing them after you get (or don't get) the CLI?

It's not free for all. Use it wisely.

I keep my reports frozen forever, only doing temporary lifts every six months or so. I plan for a few cards that I want to add, check which bureaus they want to open (Cap One wants at least two including EQ) and open one or two at a time.

The idea is not to temporarily freeze it, it's rather temporarily unfreezing.

It also gives me peace of mind without investing in costly identity monitoring services.

Edited to add : yes SP, no HP except Synchrony, Comenity, and now BofA who want unfreezing before SP.

What are the benefits of always keeping your reports frozen?  I've never looked into this so it's new to me.

I guess I'm assuming excellent credit scores here as results with less than excellent scores would be more hit or miss generally speaking.  Contributions from those with any FICO scores would be appreciated though if you felt what you received was generous considering your personal profile.

It's not just about score, generosity etc.

One's entire credit profile and income will determine the limit and CLI's that one qualifies for.

Some creditors have have easier criteria than others, leading to a bigger limits and CLI's than another but that's not generosity.  One cannot just rely on a creditor with easy criteria as even those creditors will issue low limits to those with enough issues in their credit profile.

Again, it's never jsut about score.  While it doesn't collect only info on creditors that tend to have easier crtieria for limits and CLI's, the Credit Pulls Database already collects data on scores, limits, approval, denials, CRA used, etc.  Additionally, the creditors you're interested in are always popular discussion topics so you can just look at active threads.

Many have cited SL's in the $5k-$10k range and in a year or so (sometimes much sooner) having a CL of $25-$35k.  Curious what other examples are out there and what you guys have personally had success with.

Take a look at the 3x CLI Guide.  If your profile and income qualifiy you can fairly quickly grow your limits with AmEx.

Citibank (may take a bit of effort), BOA (may take a bit of effort), Amex easily.

Amex. Without a doubt. Rode a $2K starting line to $20K in 3 years, all with SPs.

The best part is what it's done for the rest of my profile. Like a rising tide lifting all boats, all my other lenders have gone from below $5K tradelines to $15K+. As long as Amex was leading the way, they would match CLI requests to my new high limit.

Discover gets a mention for how easily and often they'll give something, though it's not much at $1K at a time. B of A also for almost guaranteed CLI success if willing to use an HP.

I don't bother with this and haven't had an issue. I do monitor my reports and could see myself freezing reports if I was going into the garden to prepare for something long term like a mortgage.
