awww, sorry to hear you don't like that card!  i was thinking of applying........trying to decide between citi diamond preferred & citi platinum select.

I have a Citi Platinum Select and it is useless to me. It has no reward program; just some weak discounts program. If you app for the Diamond Preferred make sure it is the one with Citi "ThankYou" point rewards!

actually, the only reason we want a citi card is for a bal xfr.  we use our debit card as our main rewards card.  just need to decide which one we will qualify for the easiest!  well, not me, my gf.  but her scores aren't very high considering she has no negatives, & her util is much, much lower than it used to be.  so don't really want to waste an inquiry right now, if she won't get approved.

Re: CITI Diamond Card

This is an interesting thread....the point about how the Citi Diamond points are near worthless because you can get cheaper hotel rates from the hotel directly is something I wasn't aware of.  This Review even said it was one of the 0 APR cards for 2010, so I don't know.

Re: CITI Diamond Card

About all you get with those "Extra Cash Points" is 10% off the retail items in the Thank You mall. For example, a $50.00 gift card can be bought for $45.00. I know a 10% discount is never a bad thing. But the problem is if you have $50.00 or $55,000.00 in "Extra Cash Points" you can't redeem if for the whole $50.00 GC they only discount everything by 10%.

I prefer my Amex SPG. 10k points I stay for free at Westin Imagine in Orlando which cost about $120 per night. Add in that I often get upgraded to a $180 suite I am getting about 1.8 per point. You can also transfer 20k star points into 25k sky miles. There are more basic Starwood hotels where you can stay free for 3k-6k points.

Re: CITI Diamond Card

just got instant approval a few minutes ago for 8.3k with zero apr for 12 mos for purchases and 18 mos for trfs. Not sure which bureau they pulled, but last i checked tu was 765 and eq was 700. Eq was 711 yesterday but dropped to 700 after i applied for discover. Discover only gave me 2.5k. I was just trying to replace my hooters cc i just closed yesterday. Being that i already have too much credit, i am thinking of not activating the discover cc since it is my lowest limit cc. Citi is way better in interest rate and initial cl. I know discover has the potential to grow, so i am in delima right now. Since there is no af and i already got hit hard for it, i might just sock drawer it for posterity.

thanks for the detailed info.  How do you get upgraded to the $180 suite?  Do you think Amex SPG is harder to get approved for than Amex Preferred Rewards Green card?  I got a preapproval letter for green card I think.
