CITI secured or Open Sky Secured??

My fico is 618 and I am looking to increase it. Which card should I get?? What are the credit scores to get secured cards?? Would I hurt my score by applying for a secured card? No credit card debt, one shared secured loan and a mortgage are the only installment loans in my credit report. Credit utilization at 0 because I do not have a credit card. Thanks for any advice!

Starting FICO scores 5/2017--- 580 EQ/ 531 TU/535 EXperian

Re: CITI secured or Open Sky Secured??

You might qualify for a Capital One unsecured Plat card. Have you checked their pre-qual yet on their web site?

Dont do open sky.

Citi secured will unsecure in 18 months, and has no AF.

BOFA secured is also a good choice.

I would try first though for an unsecured Cap1. There are way better choices for secured cards if you have to go that route than Open Sky.......Discover, Cap1, BOFA, Citi. Try the pre-qual on Cap1 and see if it offers Plat to you.

I opened "Open Sky Secured" when I was in low 500's, with your fico.. you can get better cards.

Re: CITI secured or Open Sky Secured??

Last I checked, SDFCU secured had a basic rewards program, no fee (except like $5 for an American Consumer Council membership to join SDFCU), and didn't even do a credit check. I believe it remains secured, though, and doesn't graduate to become an unsecured card.

I think Discover offers the best secured card...though I'm not sure if you'd qualify.

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

Capital One does not have a blacklist. I had an unpaid charge off with them and they were updating on my report every month and they gave me an unsecured card.   And my Charge off was something like 6300 dollars.
