CL and Utilization question - reapportion CL?

I have several Amex cards. I carry a balance on my Blue card (low fixed APR). The balance is $4500 and the CL is $18,000 While I realize that this won't affect my total Util (about 25% right now), I could move some of my Delta Amex $7500 CL (no balance) to my Blue, would it help the score any? I seem to remember that there's a range of Util for individual cards, as well as total util and if you're in that range the score remains unaffected.

Since your Delta has no balance, reducing it's CL won't adversely impact util. However, since your Blue does have a balance, increasing it's CL will positively impact util.

Moving CL from one AMEX to another only makes sense, IMHO, if the card to which you're moving has better terms. Over time, AMEX will review CLs and up them as appropriate so you're likely to see your Delta CL increase in time again.

Everything sounds good with your plan...

Unfortunately, the only flaw is that amex does not perform internal balance transfers as of over a year ago.

I think OP is reallocating CL, not BT.

Oh, I missed the "(no balance)" part of his post.

Thanks

You are very much correct on internal BTs, but I think they will reallocate the balance as part of a CL reallocation. AMEX can get very "term specific" so don't use the words "balance transfer" with them. Just ask about reallocating the CL, see what words they use, and apply those same words to the balance itself.

Eh, good luck with that.  I really don't think that works anymore. They can slap some available credit onto an other product you want to have more available credit on.  That's pretty much the only thing that can be accomplished with reallocation.
