I called both Discover an Amex last Friday to ask when I could request a CLI. Both said in 3 moths from the day they were opened. Mine were opened May 4th and 5th. Discover said they dont do HP. That it just depends on the relationship you have with them. Amex said that they never new if it was going to be a HP or SP. That even in the credit department they never new how it was going to come out as. I found this weird.

Is it best to pay your Amex in full before asking for the 3x CLI? I just put a charge of $100 on it the other day so it's showing that out of a 3K limit. Don't mind just paying that and asking in a few days but was curious if that mattered
I had a balance on mine when I did the 3x CLI and had no problem. They'll look at your spend history and stuff, that's why I was saying to wait til the 6 month mark, unless you gotta have that extra limit now.
I don't need it per say but I was just curious since I had seen lots of people getting CLI's at 61 days+ and I'm def at that now.
Chase wont happen. Youll have to open new cards if you want anything of significance. Sometimes chase will auto CLI so if you are a big spender theres always a slim chance of that happening.
Amex and Disco can get real big real fast. Amex probably faster than the other.
Not sure how much spending you do but I would try to make a plan. What I did was work on one or two cards at a time. It didn't make others fall in line per-se, but it was well worth it to my scores, util, etc to take HPs for citi and BOA CLIs. They never would have got that high otherwise.
my SO has a discover card and it went from 4k to 7k to 12 to 18 to 22 to 25k in less than a year. Just make sure you are either using it for a BT or making purchases, and ask every 91 days. If they say we will get back to you in 2 days thats usually a good sign!
Be prepared to submit tax stuff to amex once you surpass 25k on a single card, or 35k across all cards. Not 100% guaranteed but it does happen. Not really that big of a hassle I guess.
Went ahead and requested the 3x CLI online and was instantly approved. Thanks for the info everyone.
so what would be my chances of getting the APR lowered?
You just have to ask. For amex they can be as often as every 30-60 days. Bank of america more like 4-6 months. Discover is hit or miss. Citi can be good. Most all of them offer 3-5% on purchases for 12 months (not sure about boa), either by asking or by invitation.
