CLI Request Amounts? CITI and AMEX

Hi peeps.

My SO has a couple CLIs coming up. How much should we ask for?

  • We have a 3 year old Citi AA Mileup recently PCd from AA Plat. It has a 13k limit right now.
  • We have a 3 month old AMEX Every Day with a 18k limit.

Her FICO is high 700, 0% UTL, 1 INQ (the AMEX), no baddies, and she has an 120k reportable income. I know I've read to ask for x3 on the AMEX but that amount could trigger an account review right?

Anyhow, just looking for some guidance here. Happy holidays to all.

Citi - You can't request an amount, you'll get what they give.

Amex - 3x CL. They will counter or ask for 4506T (access to tax return), with 120k reportable income, this shouldn't be a problem. And no, this is not an account review, just income verification. If you don't want to deal with 4506T, just back tab browser and ask for a smaller amount ($1k less), repeat until approval without IV, then trash IV requests when they come in snail mail.

No problem Brandon. Keep in mind that you can still get the 7-10 day denial due to barely being approved with $500/$1000 SL, newly added negatives on CR or internal profile, or reaching Amex internal limit, but none of which would be affected by the amount you ask.

Today is actually my 181st day since my last increase of $700, I'm waiting until midnight in case if I mis-counted, I also won't be asking for 3x as I have hit my internal limit 3 requests ago (2 denials and 1 $700 counter).

$15K starting SL, squeaky clean profile and will stay that way! Congratulations and best wishes on your CLI! Lets us know how you do! You da man!

Ok result is in.

BCE @ 24.7k - Asked for 35k and got the IV request, went back and asked for $500 less until approved @ 29.5k. Better than I expected, have been preparing myself for another denial all week. Now I have a total credit line of 49.5k between 2 cards, 1 personal and 1 business.

@Anonymous, I think I'd keep it simple and ask for 30k on the AMEX card. If approved, your SO will likely be positioned for 5k increases every six months without income verification.

@Anonymous, because you got 5k this time around, I think you might also be positioned for 5k every six months.

That's what I figured having read BBS' data point in the past.
