How did they want to verify your ability to pay it back?

The way I understand it, that means that you should call in for your CLI. What they need is your income, because the new rules require them to verify that you can afford to make the minimum payment on your credit line if you hypothetically were to max the card out.
BOA luv button got 7 day message, after couple days they called me to verify and approved my request.
Discover phone luv no workie, said needed more info, transferred to analyst, said they have to do a hard pull, i said no thanks.
last year phone luv worked on the spot btw.
Amex doubled blue cash w/out even asking ;p

She just asked me what my income was, what my occupation is, and how long I had been employed. She hasked if I had my house was paid for (we're building right now so I don't have a mortgage) and for the monthly payment. That's all. Quite frankly, no real verification was performed in my mind.

Thanks. Just wanted to know how they "verified". Sounds like they're just going through the motions, accepting stated income, employment, etc.
I guess this is all discretionary anyways. The card act says that the banks must consider an ability to repay. IMO, as long as they've considered it, it doesn't make any difference (as far as the card act is concerned) whether you actually have the ability to repay or not.
Same old, same old...just more hoops to jump through.
Maybe a little off of the subject but............ I requested and received a CLI from Citi on 1/4/10, got $2000.00. Today got home a had a letter from Citi saying they had raised my limit another $3100....did not request but a CLI, but post 2/22 it makes me feel a little better about the credit situation presently.

For a couple months up until January 2010 (I know, that's back when dinosaurs ruled the earth in the credit timeline) people were getting that message when they made a CLI request over 2000. Personally, I got that message when I made a request over 2000 back in December. When I read other's experiences, I made the request for 2000 in January -- and it increased no questions asked, no need to speak to an analyst, no hard credit pull.
Since the CARD ACT is in place, I don't know. When you made your request, was it for more than 2000?
I called Discover yesterday on my card that I've had since 8/08. Had the CLI option on the phone menu...put a request for a 2k increase. System they needed additional info and would xfer to a rep. Rep came on and put the same info I put in on the IVR. Made a comment like "let's see what will happen" like he's rolling dice. He came back and said they would have to xfer me to an analyst and there would be a hard pull. I declined saying I did not want an inq done. He said ok and then proceeded to try and sell me some credit protection plan... grrrr. BTW, my current limit on the card is 2k (my lowest) and I PIF every month. Not happy with Discover right now. I get better rewards on my Chase Freedom card.
