CLI and using cards

Do your chances of CLI increase with you using them vs sock drawering them? I have 4 credit cards right now and am utilizing the AZEO method. But I want my CLI chances to be as high as possible. What is the best way to go about this? My latest card is the AMEX Delta Gold, but the card I have been using is my Discover IT card. The discover card has my highest limit (4k) and my AMEX card is a low limit (1k).

Re: CLI and using cards

These are two great cards! But they both have different methods of determining if you qualify for a CLI.

AMEX treats you well, so as long as you swipe their cards and pay on time, Of course YEMV, but for the majority of AMEX Members here, we have been able to grow the cards based on usage which does not mean you have to carry a balance. On time payments, income and your overall credit profile.

Discover likes people to carry balances. I think recently, that's the trend I have been reading about. Using it and allowing balances to report overtime would yield some favorable increases. I have not received an increase from Discover and I had already stopped asking. They can increase it if they want to. I think overall, they want your business if you are a transactor. Either way, I think both accounts have the potential to grow. It all just depends on you and your overall credit profile.

Re: CLI and using cards

Its totally lender specific. Some will increase your limits no matter if you use them or not. While others won't budge unless there's a certain amount of activity.
Amex is middle of the road. It doesn't take a ton of activity, but I would suggest using it from time to time.

Discover doesn't base CLIs on usage.
It depends more on where the stars and the moon align when request are made. As well as how often you throw salt over your left shoulder.😂

With Capital One..no usage equals no CLIs.
BofA doesn't care either way.

Re: CLI and using cards

Use the cards in the way that is best for your rewards and spending needs. Don't waist you time moving spend to get CL increases. They will come with time, normal spend and paying on time.

Re: CLI and using cards

Good advice on here, don't spend more for cli chances, almost like paying a fee for the increase.

I've gotten 2 auto cli's from disc and none on amex yet (1 request denied). I got autos from disc while putting good spend through it and paying to below 20% before statement close. Pay for mine and gf's groceries/gas through bcp, thought good spend would get me an increase but guess I thought wrong. (Oh and I always PIF)

Just my personal experience, hope it helps.
