CLI denied on BCE

so I requested 30k on my BCE. It is currently at 24.5k. I  did not get an instant decision but within 15 or so minutes, I got an email with the decision.

It turns out I was denied the cli because of a Credit Line Decrease recorded on my reports. No FICO score was included with the denial, so I presume my FICO was not the denial reason LOL

I find this very odd. Not too long ago, I lowered my Freedom limit to increase my CSP limit. GODDANGIT Amex.... I have seen recorded incidents of this silly denial reason on this forum, but never thought I would get it....

What should I do? I don't really need the cli.... but I do use my Amex BCE monthly and pif; I charge usually between 500-1000 per month.

Sorry to hear that! All you can do is relax and wait for the next CLI opportunity and hopefully you will get one...

Re: CLI denied on BCE

Wow that's crazy, but if you didn't tell me I'd guess Amex.  After 1 x 61 day CLI, that was about it for me, but I'm weak for any sign up offer I see so I don't blame them.  Your case is way different than mine though.

$24.5k is a great limit, but if it bothers you enough give the spend to Chase.  Or you could push it and explain the limit decrease.  Kind of surprised to see you hanging onto that $1k line though lol.

Re: CLI denied on BCE

Well, my Freedom card is almost two years old. lol I don't really use it all that much... that's why I was fine with lowering the CL on it. I could xfer some of my Marriott limit over to it, but I'd really just rather leave it as it is. I just feel like Amex is kind of stupid for that. I mean how much riskier am I as a Customer for moving over some of my existing credit lines?? LOL

OH AND GET THIS...

so right as Im getting denied a cli, I check my email and have a PRE APPROVED offer for a Business Gold Amex with a 50,000 bonus point offer after $5k spend.

I DONT EVEN HAVE A BUSINESS (although I am contemplating starting a little side biz!)

haha those jokers! At this point in my credit development, it's the principle of things that I sometimes do not agree with... LOL.... I  have plenty of cred avail. LOL

Just give it time man, AMEX saw that decrease as a desperate attempt for credit. You can call to explain it but chances are low on that one.

In order for an analyst to find out if you actually moved your credit lines, they'll need to look at different accounts. For people whom have many accounts with 1 bank, this can be quite a chore. Most analysts have to go through hundreds or thousands of accounts on a daily basis. Even for a computer, it adds up to a lot of processing power if its going to go through every single account in great detail.

With the ways the reports are portrayed by the CRAs, it's a lot easier to just see if you got a CLI or CLD.

You could always try to appeal that decision and explain it, but at the same time, that might result in an income verification for your CLI request, and that's obviously something that you cannot do without resulting in even more AA.

So for now, just leave it as is, wait 90 days, and hopefully the system will disregard the info by then.
