Of course, you can call and recon initial limits but you're looking at another HP and who knows if you'll be succesful. To me, it's better to wait, establish a payment history for a few months, then ask. At least then you can back up your request with a history with the card. Just my two cents. Nothing happens overnight. be patient.
I understand you are rebuilding, and the limit is maybe too low for your needs, but Rome wasn't built in a day. It takes time to build a good credit history and obtain larger limits.
I'm sorry kdm, but that's silly and not taking into account what some of these creditors do.
When I applied for my Lowes card, they gave me a SL of $300. What was I supposed to do with that ?
My scores and my income, and past payment history with other creditors indicated that the limit should be much higher. That's why my limit was immediately raised to $25K when I called in. Was I supposed to wait for years in the hopes that they would raise my limit to a suitable level?
I see no issue with someone calling an analyst and asking for a larger starting limit instead of relying on the arbitrary limit set by a computer. It's not a lender's assessment, it's a computer. A real assessment is when a CSR takes a look at your file. If an analyst sees that your credit and income deserve a better limit then there is absolute no reason to ask and in my opinion, you're foolish for not asking.

You were supposed to settle, buy a box of nails every few months and wait because credit isn't a game. Duh.
Yes - I got my new HD card and they approved it for $1,701 - odd number, but I called and they bumped it to $10k within 2 minutes of asking.
Thanks for all the imput.

Plan on PIF for 6 months and then inquiring about CLI if they don't offer after 6 months. My question is concerning the Home depot(500) that I was approved for yesterday. Should I shoot for an immediate CLI or waite. I really want that more for increased credit then to use. If I do use it it will be PIF too. Is a CLI request for home depot a hard or soft pull? Thanks again for the help. I should also mention this is the last credit request I'll apply for in the next 6 months too.
you can go for it right away. too bad they will do another hp. i just got 5k increase to 7k. but im padding my utilization right now.
