CLI question with Discover

I  have had my student discover card for 12 months. They only gave me a $750 CL and have yet to do any increase. Every time I initiate an increase they deny mewithout doing a hard pull. I really don't want them to pull a CR because I want to keep my scores up. I was recently approved for 3K on the Amex BCP. Seeing as this is 4X my limit of my discover, it will be my primary card.

I have used my Discover very heavily (considering the CL) since I got it through making several payments each month. I have never carried a balance, and even let only a small balance report. I do have an AU that does not have good credit, but I don't see why that would effect that when the account could not have had more responsible use. I don't think that I have any iq on my TU other than the discover INQ from last year when I got the card so should I just let them pull it? Do you think I will be granted an increase? I don't plan on using the card much anymore but would like higher limits on my CR's.

Which credit bureau would the inquiry be on for this?

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding your line of credit.  I can understand your concern and I am happy to provide you with some additional information.

Discover Card may look at a Discover Card account for an automatic credit limit increase at various times based in part by the past account payment history.  There in not a set time frame in which accounts are reviewed; they are reviewed periodically.   You may request to have your credit line increased; however, we would need to review your credit history to make a determination at this time.

We regret our failure to meet your expectations in this situation, and appreciate your feedback. It is comments such as yours that allow us the opportunity to better serve our Cardmembers.

I appreciate your business and the opportunity to be of service. Thank you for choosing to use Discover Card.

Sincerely,

Jennifer

Message: I ran over $2,000 in charges through my card last month which has a $750 credit limit. I have not been given a reason as to why I have not been issued any increases. I do not want my credit to have a hard inquiry on it. I have demonstrated more than responsible behavior over the past year.

I would like to keep Discover as my primary card, however I feel that my business is not wanted here due to other Credit Card companies giving me credit limits literally 4X as high.

Please get back to me.

Thank you

Re: CLI question with Discover

They do not grow with me - therefore, currently I am only using them for the 2% bonus stuff...

I have:

BoA Sig Visa: $15,000.00 line

Amex BCE: $22,200.00 line

Plus more at the above levels.

Discover: $1500.00 line that they refuse to grow.

Kills me......  Smiley Mad

How the heck can they give you only $1500??

They gave me $6500 and your credit profile is way better than mine.

Re: CLI question with Discover

Must be too many INQ's on TU. Maybe I make them nervous!  LOL...

And, I logged on the other day and my option to increase my line was gone.

I like the card and I would use them more if they would work with me. I do not care how conservative they are, they need to open their eyes a  bit. When I first got the card, I used them for anything I could. I made payments each week to I could continue to use them. Got tired of this after 5 or so months and got a Freedom. They gave me a $5000 cl to begin with. I have not used them for a while now so time to make a transaction with them. I got the card for a $200 cash back deal.

No love from Discover...  Smiley Sad

The option is not gone. When you log on to your discover account, do a search for credit limit increase amd it will bring you to a page for CLI. But it still asks you to call and discuss with them.

Most ikely if you have to call it will be a HP versus an auto CLI which is a SP.

Re: CLI question with Discover

Thanks! I did not know that.

Not going to call them though. Need to lay low for a little while.

Let's see, maybe that will just give me an auto cli after I have had the card for one year. My bet is no!  Haha....

Still it is nice to have the card so I should stop my complaining.

Re: CLI question with Discover

Ditto. My card is still sitting at the same limit when I got it 18 months ago. It's ok (3.5k) but they haven't given me any auto CLIs. Discover is a prime card with a subprime CL for quite a few of us. I don't think this card will exactly grow with me. But it's a good one to have, nonetheless. I wouldn't close it just for the lack of auto CLIs.
