@boomhower wrote:Chase and BOA are both hard to get autos with. I ended up dropping BOA and burned an INQ with Chase to get one on my Freedom card. Initially they only went from $1000->$1500. After a lot of prodding and working up the ladder I got them to go to $5k but let me tell you it wasn't quick or easy.
I don't have any experience with Chase, but BoA gives me an auto CLI every year during my card's birth month. This card is used for a couple of small recurring bills and PIF'd every month. It's become increasingly rare, but I do pull it out for other purchases once or twice a year (I used to use it heavily). So, they do still do auto CLIs, but I can't pretend to know what the trigger is.

thanks for the info

Yes, they are awesome, but if you want that card expecting to get auto-CLIs and expecting to get massive CLI's without a hard pull, then you are in for a disappointment.
I had no idea about any of this when I got my Chase Freedom and had no clue I'd be stuck at 1,400 forever. Yes, the card is awesome. Yes, the link the checking account and eventually the CSP is the best.
It's a good thing that what I care about is the rewards and not the CLI, because then I'd just be frustrated.
Five years from now, my CL could very well still be $1,400.
I'm not giving them that much time, LOL!
Chase is first to go when pruning season begins. Normally, I'd tell people to leave cards open but their circumstances are a little different. I pretty much have enough credit and AAOA is almost 12 years. It's really only useful, at the moment, for utilization.
updated it becasue i have questions about CLI's not just auto.
before i ask for a CLI from chase and BoA should i close cap1 or only after i get a CLI?
Depends on when/if the AF hits

anyone ever get a CLI from cap1? i just hit a year this month so i asked and they said no

YMMV but my only CLIs with CapitalOne have been when my cards were on the credit steps program. Had them since 2009 and no extra CLIs. I've also never requested one, but I've heard many stories about the CSRs saying, "we don't do that." I have asked them to combine cards with no luck.
DW has a platinum Cap1 Visa (not credit steps) received an auto CLI in December 2000>2500. The card is 13 years old... I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that CLI!
ETA: DW was nearly maxed out on that card when she received the auto CLI *YMMV*
