Re: CR Freeze Stopping current creditors from pulling a hard.

Freezing your CR to avoid a justified hard pull that you initiated is a dishonest misuse of a tool meant expressly for indentity theft protection, IMHO.

This is one man's opinion. Dishonesty is lying about your HHI to obtain a bigger credit line. Dishonesty is lying about how much $$$ you make on your credit application. Stealing a blowpop at a candy store is being dishonest. Freezing your credit report for what ever "personal" reasons one desired has nothing to do about being dishonest misuse of a tool. It is an advantage that some are willing to take by being a smart consumer. Score one for the little ppl here!!!

Have you ever had a CSR told you that your requested CLI will be a soft pull instead of a hard pull? AND it ended up being a hard pulled? Have you ever had a collection that is outside of your SOL and the CA hard pulled your CR? If you answer NO and NO...than you have no idea nor are you in the situation of the ppl who did freeze their report for those reasons. There's could be other factors why one choose to freeze their report..and guess what? Freezing your report is allowed.

Bull. If you honestly think companies are so honest about the reason they're running reports you're naive. And no, bureaus do NOT dispute inquiries anymore. They tell you to call the creditor. "Permissible purpose" is not validated with a signature or proof of app. It is an electronic request that is honored. I have worked in credit processing AND for a bureau. You have no clue how often faulty inquiries are done.

No, the bureaus don't dispute inquiries. Hence you dispute them with the company. Which is why there are stickied threads explaining how to do exactly that. If they don't have evidence of PP then the inq gets deleted. Many, many people on these boards do this successfully all the time.

Freezing your CR to avoid inqs that you have not given permission for is completely reasonable. So freezing to keep a CA from pulling hard? Makes perfect sense. Especially considering the general opinion here is that CA's don't have PP to hard pull and they're just doing it to hurt you. Technically, your CCC always has PP whether or not they ask you, but if you want to make sure the claimed soft pull doesn't suddenly become a hard (CSRs are notorious for not even knowing the difference sometimes) then freezing your is also a good idea. Although as it's been discussed here that isn't necessarily foolproof.

But freezing with the expressed purpose of trying to dodge an inq for which you have expressly given permission? That is nothing but dishonest, IMO.

Not exactly true.

Equifax will dispute an INQ.  You can do it online and then they will have you call in with the details while they verify your identity.  Watched them do it just last week.

TU will also let you dispute, but you have to reach about two steps higher than the normal CSRs you initially get.

A freeze does not stop a hard by a CA.
