I'm not familar with your bank, but I used to be a personal banker at another bank and if you don't have a history of prior reversals it might be possible to have the fee reversed... just call and ask nicely, for some reason phone bankers tend to have more leeway in doing reversals.
If its a one time deal.. dont sweat it! Worst case scenario is they wont refund the late fee and your interest rate will go up.. but since you dont use the card it wont matter!.. you're nowhere near 30 days late so they wont report it..But still try to get the late fee removed! best of luck
Yes. as everyone is saying, no impact to the report (yet). If they won't remove the late fee make sure you pay that as well. Personally, if they won't remove the late fee and/or go to a Penalty APR, I would close, given that you were thinking of that anyway. I wouldn't keep an unneeded card with a penalty APR.
TRy to get the fee reversed. DON'T tell them anything about thinking of closing the account. If they think it's their last chance to milk you for money, they will keep the fee. Now, if they say "no," then you can say, "you know what, I don't think this is the kind of financial relationship that I need, right now, how much would I need to pay to close the account at zero balance?" And see what happens.

Ok then call them when you can and plead your case. Especially if you've never been late with them before. If they dont, lesson learned and move on. Remember the autopay thing if you decide not to close the account. Good reminder to look at your other accounts too.
+1. Usually, they'll waive one time as a courtesy

Great advice here OP.

Agree. Most banks tend to be flexible provided your account/history has been in good standing and no prior fee reversals or adjustments.

+1 I would ask nicely and if they do not budge ask to close the account. If they agree to remove the late fee let that be sorted out first and if you still want to close it do it once the late fee is reversed ..Good luck`!
