CSP $50 Hotel Credit Setback

So, my anniversary for the CSP was 1/27, and my wife had a hotel stay booked through the Chase portal that I purchased on 1/23 for a one day stay on 1/25. The $50 credit didn't post until 1/31, which was after my reset. Since the credit posted after the reset, it took my 2023 credit away.

I contacted Chase through SM, and their first reply must not have read my inquiry, because their response was about the $300 CSR credit, and I don't even have the card. I replied back and the next message came from a Senior Service Specialist 2, and told me that since it posted after the reset they would not re-credit it to 2022 to "remain fair and consistent."

Do you think I'm out of luck? Or should I maybe try calling directly to see if they can do anything? Maybe if I dig into a benefits pamphlet, it'll say something about the credit posting, and maybe my request is moot. But if they haven't stated anything specific in their terms, I feel my request is reasonable.

I'm no expert in Chase cards, but it seems unfair to me. If you'd earned the credit before the reset, it makes no sense for them to be able to deprive you of it by delaying in posting the credit.  It seems to me that the credit was earned when you booked it.  Their delay in giving it to you seems to me to be irrelevant.  The statement credit is earned on your purchase, not on their deciding when to get around to giving it to you.

$50 Annual Ultimate Rewards Hotel Credit: A statement credit will automatically be applied to your account when your card is used for hotel accommodation purchases made through the Ultimate Rewards program, up to an annual maximum accumulation of $50. Annual means the year beginning with your account open date through the first statement date after your account anniversary, and the 12 monthly billing cycles after that each year. Annually, the first $50 in Ultimate Rewards hotel purchases will not earn rewards points. Statement credit(s) will post to your account within two days after your purchase posts to your account and will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement within 1-2 billing cycles.

When did the hotel purchase post? That may be what threw everything off because if the hotel charge didn't post until 1/27 for example, that would explain why Chase didn't credit you until 1/31, which unfortunately was after your card's anniversary.

A variant of "If we gave it to you, everyone would want one" from early childhood!   @OmarGB9 probably has identified the source of the issue, and if so, Chase is acting within the words of the agreement.    It still seems mean-spirited of them once you complained.   But check when it posted, and if two days after that was post-reset.

In the end it's only $50, but still...  Lesson learned: don't wait until very near cutoff!

It shows a transaction date of 1/24 and post date of 1/25. If I can find that info @SouthJamaica posted, I'll contact them again and see what happens.

*Edit* I did find the terms and I sent them to Chase in a SM, so I'll see what they say about that.

I hope they give in!   But two days after 1/25 is 1/27 and I guess the question is when the reset happens....

Well, the terms say *within* 2 days, so it could be sooner than 2 days, but it could also be right AT 2 days, meaning it's past the cutoff because (presumably) the credit resets on 1/27.

I don't agree. The agreement doesn't say you earn it once the purchase has posted. It says you earn it for purchases.  The only thing about when the purchase posts is the timing of their issuing the credit, which has to be within 2 days of the purchase posting.

That just relates to when they issue the credit, which is within 2 days after the purchase posts.

Yes, I now agree with you.   If it *posts* before the reset, they should honour it.   Chase clearly received the transaction information within the first year and as @SouthJamaica has said, the details about when and how their credit is posted doesn't change the fact it was earned on time.

(You should still be careful not to leave things too late as you have no idea when something will post)
