CSP Question

Hello everyone.  First of all, Happy Belated Thanksgiving!  I have been reading these forums for a while now but never needed to post anything until today.  I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card through online app yesterday and received the 7-10 day message.  I called the backdoor number for the credit analyst and she stated that they were not going to approve me since my highest credit line is the Freedom card and my freedom card is 2 months old.  After the call ended, I waited a few minutes and called the app recon line to plead my case.  I explained to the representative that I eat out a lot and the 2x points were very appealing and also I will be traveling soon and would like to utilize the no foreign transaction feature of the CSP card.  The representative told me in a confused voice that I was actually approved for the CSP card.  This took me by surprise so I thanked the representative and ended the call.  I called the automated app status line and it also said that I was approved.  Now I am very excited so I call back to have my card expedited and the representative has some difficulty finding my account.  He looks around for a bit and states that my account is actually closed.  So he transfers me back to the lending department and the analyst also shows that my account is closed.  She has her manager review the account and is not able to find a reason why this happened.  She advised me that her manager will be giving me a call back by Tuesday of next week.

I am curious if this happened to anyone and if so, what should I expect?

Thank you.

Re: CSP Question

Teknut,

I've never heard of anything like your situation.  What is your AAOA?  Inquries?  Any baddies?  Keep us updated, and good luck to you!

Re: CSP Question

JPmorgan,

I received a call from a manager in their credit department and she explained what happened.  She stated that sometimes, even after the manual review, the automated system still makes its own decision.  But she explained the manual review overwrites the automated decision.  So therefore, I would not be approved for the CSP.  So I asked her to move my 5000 TL from Freedom to CSP and she said she will call me back.  What ended up happening is that she kept $1000 in my Freedom card while putting $5000 on the CSP card thereby approving me for an additional $1000.  I am excited and can't wait to receive the CSP.

My AAOA is a little over 5 years and I have 3 inquiries in the last 2 years, not counting the CSP app.  No baddies on my Experian report.

Thank you.

Congrats/that sucks. You were going to slip through with an extra $5k.

Although I question what would cause an automated computer system running off an algorithm to have to take its time to decide. Maybe it flags items and people manually review the items, not the whole credit report, and when you called in you got a full credit analyst "we don't know you yet" treatment.

Re: CSP Question

Thank you kekrre.  Maybe I should not have called Chase after my app and probably would have received my card in 7-10 days with an additional $5k in credit Smiley Happy  Who knew though that the automated system would have ended up approving me.
