CSP Retention Offer [data point]

Hi everyone,

I had been reading online more and more since becoming a member and became keen to the retention offers. Gives me something to do and learn while I sit in the garden. Being on the forums makes me want to be as active as I can in taking advantage of the different benefits, bonuses, etc..

So I had read quite a bit online that they didn't offer much if anything for retention on the CSP. I've had the card for about 3.5 yrs and vary between $25k-$50k a year through the card. I decided to call the number on the back of the card and basically just said I wanted to cancel the card as I had been recently approved for the United Club Card and couldn't see the benefit of contiuning to pay the AF on this card. As soon as I mentioned that she offered a $100 statement credit that would post in 1-2 months but most likely sooner.

Was on the phone with the CSR for less than 2 minutes and got a great offer. They also had just given me a soft pull CLI 2 weeks ago for $6800, I'm thoroughly enjoying my Chase relationship so far they have been pretty good to me aside from refusing to lower the APR on my Freedom 27.49% even though both my CSP & recently approved UnitedCard have about a 16% rate.

Hope this helps for those out there!

Re: CSP Retention Offer [data point]

Great post! That's good to know you can get a credit for the annual fee on the CSP. Two things: how do you get a soft pull CLI through Chase? I looked online and couldn't find the option. Is the only way to call? Second, how the heck do you have 27% APR on the Freedom? Did you miss a payment at some point?

Re: CSP Retention Offer [data point]

So for the soft pull CLI I actually called the recon number first and they told me I would only be eligible for a possible CLI with a hard pull which I declined. I immediately called the number on the back of the card to the CSR and they offered it to me right away. I did give them a nice story I how I was purchasing a home and couldn't take a hit on my credit but would be spending more.

The freedom was actually my very first credit card and also my oldest, aside from a 1984 backdated amex. I was young and I think I went over my limit a few times and possibly missed some payments, I honestly cant recall. I have no remarks on the account anymore but they have refused to budge on the APR after multiple inquiries.

It's very frustrating that they wouldn't do anything, I actually did cancel the card thinking if I went through with it they would do something to keep me. I then un-did the cancellation b/c I don't really want to lose the card. However I need to call back in and see if they can give me one of the retention bonuses on the account they were offering when I was cancelling, I don't even remember what they were.

Congrats on the retention offer.

As for the APR, Chase simply doesn't lower APRs upon request (or really at all), no matter how long you have the card or how high up in the chain you go. Just isn't something they do. Only option to get a lower APR on the same product is to cancel and reapply (which of course guarantees nothing).

Gratz on the retention offer. Chase isn't big on giving retention offers on the CSP, but since you put a decent amount through the card every year it makea a difference.

Re: CSP Retention Offer [data point]

Nice job on the retention but boy that Freedom APR looks to be a killjoy.

Never knew that a Freedom rate could be that obscene. Ouch Smiley Indifferent

I closed my Freedom Card last year sporting a 22.99% APR and moved that limit over to the CSP in hopes of apping Freedom again for a better APR & SL the next time. Of course that was before the 5/24 deal went into affect.
