Just like that lady that took advantage of Costco's return policy and returned a live christmas tree in January, some things are technically possible or allowed under a policy. But it may be a good idea not to go crazy because that's the fastest way to get something nerfed or ruin it for everyone else.
Well that Costco return is an obvious abuse of return policy.
But when it comes to annual fees, either the bank feels you're worth keeping around for whatever reason and reduces/waives the AF, or they don't and no amount of cajoling is going to change that. It's fairly black and white I think, so pretty hard to abuse and ruin it for other people.

I pay like $2,500 total AFs. But I know I've received much much more than that. After the credit, the premium cards are like $100 AF. The card benefits more than cover that. I'll certainly review my cards and close down the ones I do not use often, or just redundant. Do not be afraid of closing down the AF cards that have negative payoff....

Yes i didnt mean you cant try, but im getting tired of hearing people say that (insert bank name here) didnt give them a lower AF. You signed up for the card and the terms. When i had cable (dish&DTV) i called every 3 or 6 months to see if they had anything free or reduced. But if i didnt get any i was dine paying the regular payments.
Newer People on here seem to think that they can sign up for the 1st yr free then BEG for the following YEARS to also be free. It seems i am becoming more like my parents every day and think people need to MAN or WOMAN up and just pay what was agreed to and stop acting like a spoiled rich brat.
Yes, but really all a matter of degree. Should you recon anything? No, you applied for the card and agreed with the process, so if you are declined man/woman up and accept (actually I agree with this!). Equally, you got the APR and CL given by the process you agreed to when you applied, so don't try to change those either....
Banks are quite free to say no (and even tell you not to ask again). Now I question whether a ten minute call with the POSSIBILITY of saving $30 a year is a good use of time, but that's for each person to decide!

Let's just say my hourly rate is nowhere even near $180, and that's the metric I use when trying to decide if something is "worth my time". ![]()

I’m getting old obviously too. People seem to not want to pay their bills and feel there are no consequences for everything. There is so much great advise for how to get rid of things on their report. But if things are legitimate why do people think it’s owed to them to get off Scott free for everything? As an example EEs are awesome. I call up and get them. But if they ever say no I know they don’t have to. I don’t get mad like I’m owed something. I’m more old school that you signed the dotted line, take responsibility for your actions.
I never said DONT call but im tired of reading on these forums that young people me being 34 but my generation and younger complaining that the bank wouldnt give them $500 back off their $350 dollar card. Then they also compain that they cant afford the APRs since they have used 90% of their 10k line.
If i call to cancel guess what i WILL cancel i wont be a idiot and hang up, i hope they put it in the system that that person did it so in the future they will be cut off from any deals whatsoever.
Im platinum with marriott and have never asked for an upgrade but id say due to me being so nice i have been given upgraded rooms quite a bit more than most.
My goal being on here is to learn and hope that what i learn can turn my cards into more points that i can use down the road.
