Cabelas Approve, surprise by 'low' CL

I was told there CLs were pretty high, most cards I've gotten prior were $2k - $3k, Chase recently gave me $5k and then I applied for Cabelas and Partners First.

Partners first gave me $10k (!!!) but Cabelas only $2k. I'm surprised/disappointed. Thinking when it comes in mail I'll ask for CL on activate to at least $5k. They pulled Eq which shows 720 and only one baddie from almost exactly 7 years ago (a $300 Cap1 CO), great utilization, perfect payemtns otherwise. Would have thought $5k easily (seeing how Chase gave me that pulling Efax which had 4 year old Bally CO and a Paid Collections and 25 points lower)...

I don't think that they're obsessed with pyramiding the way that PenFed (for example) is, but they might have gotten skittish at your other successes.

Dear Barclays (Barnes and Noble MC) gave me a whopping $500 CL, lol. When I asked why, they said that I appeared to already have enough credit. Smiley Tongue

Well the interesting thing is I app'd to Cabelas first and then Partners First. Wayyy surprised at PF on the other hand, but when Cabelas pulled my Efx I would have had ZERO Inquiries at the time. I'm going to see what I can do about CL. I might even ask PF for a CL when I call just for the heck of it.

Re: Cabelas Approve, surprise by 'low' CL

Had the same thing happen to me with Citi just last month. Did all my research, found an EQ puller for my area because I had 700+ score and a couple of inq's only.

App'ed and they gave me 3k !! I posted here about it, wondering if I should even activate. Of course I did , I was just disappointed.

Surprisingly though a few people wrote in saying I should be happy, it's a respectable CL. I have gotten so used to higher lines I kind of forgot how happy I was with 3k six months ago !!

Anyway, I asked for a CLI at activation (it cost me a hard after being told it wouldn't) and raised it to 7.5k I probably should have asked for more. LOL.

Congrats on your cards. Go after what you think you deserve. Partners is on my list after NASA in at least six months.

Citi is one of those that generally doesn't throw money around; at least not for an initial CL.

NY...  You did way well with partners...  I am sure your Cabelas will grow as well..  two approvals with an avg over 6K...

In about three months, I will go back for Partners... (maybe a clone)  this time with more knowledge and a clean TU in case they pull that again...

Re: Cabelas Approve, surprise by 'low' CL

while many on this forum will disapprove of the NPSL cards because of the reporting issues, one advantage they do offer is that no creditor will know the sum total of your credit lines simply by pulling your CR, and you will be less likely to get the "sufficient credit available" excuse when you request additional credit than if you have large outstanding CL's.

of course, you get a ding on your util if not all of your credit is counted toward util and you have some cards reporting limits of "0", which is the main downside of the NPSL cards, which is what most people complain about.
