Can I PIF before the statement date with Amex?

It seems that I never get it right always reporting a balance. Has anyone else had luck getting Amex to report $0 bal with activity? Thanks.

I do all the time (charge card.) My statement drops on the 18th, so I stop using it on the 14th, pay online (AmEx site, not my bank site) on the 16th or 17th, wait for the $0 to post, and start over again.

They don't report that until four weeks later (on the 14th for me), so the one time that a balance snuck through, I had to glare at it a good long while before the following month's $0 finally posted.

I've had success by not using my card for a few days before the statement cuts.

It seems to take 2-3 days for purchases to post (although it seems to come out of the "available balance" on the first page immediately). I then pay the balance online the morning of the day the statement cuts (yes, I do make a payment well before the due date as well!).
