I don't get the excitement about chip cards. It just seems like its not gonna work in as many places as it does now. And places it does work with will require to stick it in instead of swiping it. Is that true? Will it work in parking meters etc? How is that chip going to prevent fraud? I imagine you can still buy stuff over the internet with it so if somebody has my credentials I'm screwed the same.
I'd rather just use my current normal chipless quicksilver. Can I just never activate the new one? What will happen?
Activate the new card. Use and enjoy.
Not all terminals have been switched over to accept chip technology so there are still plenty of places where you can swipe & sign. I assume if you don't activate the new card, you will still be able to use your old card. The question now becomes for how long. At some point Cap1 may force you to activate it. Did you read the literature that came along with your card?

Right, several issuers deactivate the old card after a certain time, like 90 days. The whole point of the chip is to reduce fraud losses for the company (consumers don't pay anyway!) so they will be keen, once they have gone to the expense of sending out a chipped card, to make you use it. Then merchants become liable for issues if they don't have a chip reader.
i'd just activate the new one and not worry myself about a possible decline happening.
The card will still work everywhere where a terminal isn't supported with the chip because it still has a strip. I have yet to use my only chipped card, which is Discover for an actual chip transaction because two places I've gone, while they've had the readers, don't have the software rolled out to them yet.
