I have Amex Delta Skymiles Gold card since 9 years and harly used it, but I kept paying its Annual fees of $99. Now I am looking at Amex Platinum and its 150k points are looking tempting. Do they convert/upgrade my Gold card to Platinum and still give 150k points?
I will really not use my Delta card and atm my focus is to accumulate SUB.
Thanks

For whatever it's worth...I just checked the Platinum upgrade offer for my Gold and the SUB is only 25,000 points.
Oh, it is way less. Then better I should apply new Amex platinum and hope I will be eligible for 150k points.

you can't go from Delta Gold to Amex Plat, you can go from Delta Gold to Delta Plat but you would only get what your upgrade offer is, you wouldn't get the current sub. you should be able to go down to delta blue with no AF, since it's been over a year you've had the card. you lose the chance to get the SUB for either the delta blue or plat if you change though, so if you wanted those SUBs apply for those cards first, and also check the SUB rules on the delta cards with all of the recent changes because that could have changed
if you want the 150k amex plat, you'd have to apply for it

They have changed, but given the outcry largely driven by the Sky Club access policy change who knows if it will stick. As of right now, if applying for a Delta card you "may not be" eligible for a SUB if you have or previously had the same or higher-tiered Delta card. For example if you have or had a Delta Reserve or Delta Platinum card you're technically ineligible for a SUB if you applied outright for a Delta Gold.

I'm pretty sure you can't upgrade from an Amex Delta card to to an Amex Platinum card.
