Something about the new credit law and the annual fee going up before 12 months...
Maybe I am wrong.
I have the Gold and they give me Platinum pre-approvals like once a week! I'm not biting though, $450 a year is steep!
you can't upgrade for a year, from what I have heard.
Yeah, I thought I had heard that and saw it somewhere. Thanks for the confirmation though! I will be sticking with my Gold for a while anyways.

oh wait... if Amex gives you an "upgrade" button on your online account page, you can take it and it would be upgrade not new application.
Didn't know that!
However, I would have to pay the $450 fee right then, bah.
I am still rolling on my free year for Gold. Maybe at the 12 month I will upgrade. Who knows!

Really unless you travel a couple times a month, your Gold Card with bonus' will be better. and actually even when I use to travel 1-2 a month it was all in the US... the Platinum to me would only be worth it if you find yourself with long layovers or your travel internationally, but it's still nice to know if you want it, Amex wants to give it to you!
I am hopping to get Platinum... When I do, I will make my stepfather an AU. He works out of state 3 weeks on 2 weeks off. Then my last job (I hope to get something similar again), every other month I usually traveled somewhere for 1-2 weeks just to make that sale... At the moment, I been using green on EVERYTHING and have yet to see much points.
To be approved for Platinum, does AMEX FR?

If it's on your online account as an upgrade, it's already been approved for you, you are basically just agreeing to the new annual fee and new cards will be sent

Does AMEX FR with revolvers as well? The other day AMEX denied my transaction for no apparent reason. I was assuming that they were going to FR me, later I received a phone call from them to identify some information because my account was recently replaced due to lost card.
