I've been getting mixed answers from both AMEX reps and previous posts. Some people say it's possible to upgrade after one year, while others said it's impossible.
I'm really looking forward to upgrade my Zync to Gold in a few months. Have anyone upgraded their Zync to another Charge Card?
From what I understood the qualifications for a ZYNC are not the same as the GOLD. Not saying that you wouldn't qualify but the requirements are supposedly different.
EDITED: I am not 100% sure on the 1 year waiting period for upgrades since when I applied and approved and received card I signed in to AMEX site and was offered several cards (upgraded charge and CC). I called the CSR and asked her what that meant and she had said that I am approved to receive those cards if I so choose to accept them. I only had the card for 1 day.
I would just call Amex and asked, I know when I had the green and wanted to upgrade to the gold, it was only in a 1 months time too, the rep told me Amex likes to upgrade cards as Amex makes more money in the annual fees and when you upgrade it is not a hard pull. Good Luck keep us posted.
Good question. I just called twice and asked that. One lady said yes I can, the other guy said no I cannot, I'd have to have at least Green. He said it may give you the option online to upgrade but he wasn't sure if it was a soft or hard pull. He said most likely soft.
So I honestly have no idea at this point.
I just called AMEX CSR and this is what she said.
If you have the ZYNC card the requirements are less stringent and may require a hard pull to upgrade to another charge card if less then a year of having the card. If you have an offer to upgrade then you have met the minimum requirements and a soft pull is performed and reviewed. As of presently their is no offer to upgrade to a CC that she is aware of from the ZYNC card, you would have to apply. All charge cards can PC to the ZYNC since the requirements are higher for other charge cards.
If you have the Green or higher you can upgrade to any charge card up to PLATINUM (BLACK excluded) and those offers should show instantly for which you qualify. GREEN or higher will have offers for CC when requirements are met. If you have no offers it may require a hard pull and is usually just a review and a soft pull.
Since we all get conflicting information I am unsure what to actually think except to say YMMV according to AMEX requirements and your personal credit profile.

+1
I had green and PC for Zync when it was released, when I sign in online, every charge card available shows up with a button next to it saying upgrade.
and correct, Charge card can be PC for charge cards and credit cards pc for credit cards except costco and lowes you can only obtain by applying, no pc available to them.
also from my understanding beginning last year sometime maybe sooner, you can now request to be reviewed and upgraded to black if you have met the $250k in yearly spending and are willing to pay the 7500 exceptance I think it is plus the 5k annual fee.
Thanks for all the great information, but the information still seems to be mixed. I'm getting mutiple answers from different reps so it's still some what ambiguous.

The answers might be mixed if your an amex customer for under a year, but after doing at least 6 PC in the last year with Amex, I feel I can say with certanty how it works once you pass that one year make... Just keep logging in and checking your account, they will place an upgrade button as soon as your elegible I bet because like the one rep told you, they make more money.
However if you ask me, I don't see why you would want a Gold over a Zync unless you just spend a lot of money in gas and travel to take advantage of the 3/2/1... My 2% on Zync rewards me many more points then when I had Gold.

You're right... I'll stick with my Zync. Thanks
From what I've read online, the Gold sucks for people like me who don't spend huge amounts each month and who are not AF-friendly. I don't know if you fall into this category. The Zync seems a much better deal. Maybe you can buy some gold spray paint and make your own Amex Gold!
