Can they do that?

My husband and I both have inquiries from First USA bank on our credit reports dated May 2007. We are both fairly certain that neither of us initiated this by applying for credit with them because we don't need any more credit cards. How can we find out how this inquiry came about? I would like to have it removed if that is possible.

Please help.

Re: Can they do that?

I believe that's Chase. Apply with them by chance?

Re: Can they do that?

And are they hard or soft?
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Hard inquiries.

And we did not apply with Chase in May 2007.

Re: Can they do that?

And you're sure you didn't apply for credit with Chase?

I would call and ask them to remove them.

Did you perhaps get a CLI on a Chase card around that time?  They do pull hard inquiries for CLI.

Nope, no increases on our Chase card nor did we request one. The CL has always been the same on that card.

That's an interesting point though. Based on your question/response, if we have a cc with a company and that company wants to increase our credit limit (not at our request) do they do hard or soft inquires? I thought they only did soft inquiries if we didn't not initiate the process but your question/response casted doubt on that.

Re: Can they do that?

I am under the impression that a request for credit/increased credit initiated by the consumer can result in a hard, as you give them PP to pull a copy of your report.

I have no idea if that is the actual rule or not though.

Re: Can they do that?

Are CCC's allowed to pull hard queries if you have a open account with them w/o notice to the end user?

I thought I read this somewhere that they have the right to check your report (hard pull) if you are under contract with them (ie have credit extended to you).  I could be wrong.

That's what I thought also but that other post made me rethink that.
