I also kind of miss not having my cash back right away. Waiting until the statement is annoying when you’re used to waiting 2-3 days for a charge to finalize lol.

Yeah, that is nice.  They should hire you!

Thanks Saeren....I didn't think of it that way.  (throwing money away)

It’s not throwing money away per se, it’s throwing away that relationship. Capital One has some things going for them - they’re not known to get upset when you have to carry balances, they offer virtual credit card numbers through their Eno service which lets you make purchases online safely, they have 24 hour customer service, they have no FTF, and I have heard more than one person around here call them “old reliable” because when other cards get declined for stupid reasons Cap cards don’t and they’re also very good with their fraud practices.

Virtually every major bank has 24 hour customer service, so I'll ignore that one because IMO that's not a unique perk at all.

Capital One used to be known as "reliable" etc until people noticed they still can and do take AA if there's something they don't like about your profile. They aren't against lowering limits, and no bank wants you to carry a balance indefinitely. I haven't had a Capital One card in years, and I've occasionally carried balances on other bank products like Discover and BOA and never had an issue. It is nice Capital One gives the rewards immediately, but waiting until the end of the month isn't a big deal when we're talking about $10 or $20 in reward dollars, not life changing money.

People throw away the Capital One "relationship" because the cards often refuse to grow, are stuck at tiny limits and huge APRs, and in general you can get better cards once you outgrow the need for a $300 limit. Capital One is entirely automated and there is no human decisioning involved in account changes like CLI, APR, whatever. I don't think a relationship with them is really that important. With any big bank there really is no "relationship" you are just a number and if you are looking for more of the "relationship" experience you need to go credit union really.

TL;DR once a Capital One card has outlived its usefulness I don't see any reason to hang on to a basic product.

Eh, the old reliable thing doesn’t really cross to AA. All issuers take AA when the algorithms sense trouble. Old reliable refers to the fact that Chase and Amex may get declined and Capital One doesn’t for the same transaction — there was actually a confirmation of this in another thread yesterday.

Capital One has a higher risk tolerance than most - you hear about AA from Capital One far less than Amex or Chase - and I don’t see how you can slam Capital One for not budging on their APRs when Chase and USAA don’t either. What you get approved for is what you have.

There are some restaurants in my small town that don't take Discover either.  I haven't had an issue yet with Cap1.  Amex signs in a lot of places we frequent as well.... "We don't accept Amex" .

One of my concerns and you know @Saeren is I'm wondering what will Cap1 do with our Walmart MC accts.  I don't want to lose it, it has a high cl.  Any thoughts?  I'd ditch the QS $750 cl to save my WalmartMC....but nobody has a crystal ball.  I just feel that 3 accts. with Cap1 ain't gonna wash.

And one other reason for keeping Capital One, if you like Peets and are near a Capital One Cafe, 50% off!
