Cancelled all of my DW's capital one cards.

So my wife has had a cap one card since 2007. It wasn't used as much so I dont blame them too much but since 2007 the credit line has not increased from 750.

She also had a quicksilver at 500 that was approved in 2013. No CLI there either. The thing is she has a freedom card with a 12k CL and a Discover it with a 8,500 line so it is really odd why these lines are not increasing.

Oh well like I have said in the past to me capital one can save people that really need it but at some point it is time to move on from them.

Consolidating CL's would be a good start in my opinion but oh well.

01/14/2015 Scores: EQ: 646 TU:667 EX: 663
03/23/15 Scores: EQ: 716 TU: 778 EX: 721

Goal Scores: 750

I would try to get a CLI from the EO prior to closing them out. The type of card matters.

Let me Google that for you, its the first entry presented    http://bit.ly/1g0P1zO

Re: Cancelled all of my DH's capital one cards.

Im in the same situation. I have a line of communication going with a lady in the EO right now. I should hear from her Monday or Tuesday.

You may want to hold on to it.

How old are your other cards? This is an old account so it will factor into your AAoA. Which affect scores.

2007 is a decently old card.  Does she need the card to increase AAoA?  Sure it still reports for another 10 years but if it's one of her oldest tradelines it might be worth keeping it just for the score boost.  Is there an Annual Fee?  I would definitely recon EO if she still cares about AAoA

Re: Cancelled all of my DH's capital one cards.

Were the cards on the Credit Steps program, particularly the Quicksilver that was opened in 2013. That should have had a cli after 5 months.

Did you have Freedom and Discover in 2013 when you opened the Quicksilver? Is her utilization high to explain the scores in the 600's?

i don't know if you read the various posts here regarding Capital One starter cards capping out at one cli. They want you to upgrade to the next card which in your case would be the Venture.

It sounds like you already closed the cards. If not try the EO office on the Quicksilver, and apply for the Venture and leave the cards open IMO.

Re: Cancelled all of my DH's capital one cards.

I wouldn't call the Venture the top tier, since not everyone needs a travel card with annual fee. The quicksilver visa is okay, but it's better to product change, then get three HP's for not so great card (I.e, same as the lower quick silver with annual fee perma gone, like mine).
Signature needs updating

Re: Cancelled all of my DH's capital one cards.

I've dealt with the eo before and got a cli that was basically a slap in the face. She had a couple of amex credit cards back in 2007. So once her inquiries drop off I might grab one and get it backdated.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Cancelled all of my DH's capital one cards.

The topic here is DW cards, correct?

If DW has a history with CapOne, and Freedom is at $12k, then it is time to app for another different CapOne card, like the Quicksilver. Others have also run into a ceiling with credit limits on starter cards, but were pleasantly surprised with the new CL on a new CapOne card.

High Bal Jan 2009 $116k on $146k limits 80% Util.
Oct 2014 $46k on $127k 36% util EQ 722 TU 727 EX 727
April 2018 $18k on $344k 5% util EQ 806 TU 810 EX 812
Jan 2019 $7.6k on $360k EQ 832 TU 839 EX 831
March 2021 $33k on $312k EQ 796 TU 798 EX 801
May 2021 Paid all Installments and Mortgages, one new Mortgage EQ 761 TY 774 EX 777
April 2022 EQ=811 TU=807 EX=805 - TU VS 3.0 765
