Cap 1 EO Number Issue?

As I was reading another thread that was just locked, it kind of upset me. Here Is why. The thread was locked for the following reason:

"Please continue to go through Cap One's Facebook or email for assistance.  OP received the number from previous contact with them using this method.  Cap One does not like to be cold-called and the last thing we want is to have all contact methods shut down"

I'm not one to want to bring up issues on MyFico, however I believe this one warrants some discussion. I would not recommend the moderators lock these kinds of threads. IMHO I don't believe it is the moderators place to tell us in what manner we should conduct our business. Capital one has these numbers for a reason, for the consumer. No business or person wants to be cold-called with a problem, but a good business will still handle the problem until a resolution is found! If we can’t use these numbers to solve our problems, then what good are they?

Facebook and email has been good for some, but for others we work better by phone. So, I say we should embrace these numbers and call when needed. The EO has helped so many people, simply by calling, so why shut us down when we try and help others? This is what MyFico is for, to help! Also, I'm not saying this to be rude, but MyFico is not the only credit forum around, the EO number flows freely through dozens of other threads on other boards so if they don't get it here, they will simply get it elsewhere anyway. Please, look into this issue and help us Smiley Happy

Thanks Guys and Gals!

PS - Please don't send this to die in SmorgasBoard? Smiley Tongue

There's a place worse than SmorgasBoard. It's called Moderator Review. Smiley Tongue

I understand your post and was also a bit annoyed at the locking of the thread as well. The fact the number was not posted in the thread itself, but was given out by PM implied that SOME discretion was being taken with it's use and "abuse"

I'm sure Lexie was just referring to the fact that sometimes these numbers get spread like wildfire and end up getting shut down. (BoA is notorious for this)

You're absolutely correct, Nixon. The number was given out in private. Also, sometimes the numbers do get shut down, but they simply open up a new number at which point we wll find that one out and then call that too! Smiley Happy

I think the implication however is that they COULD shut it down to the public completely and only take written requests initiated internally, Like AMEX or Diner's Club.

As a means to keep visibility on a diverse number of topics, threads that are considered redundant are sometimes consolidated and/or locked upon moderator review.   Using the search function, you will find numerous threads on the topic of Cap One EO Contact Information.

While the EO number and email may be visible on other boards, the TOS of this community does not allow personal contact information to be posted.   Yes, we know that the CEO isn't personally answering the emails and answering the phones.  However, the information is still considered a "personal" contact under the Community standards.   While we recommend using either social media or an internet search to obtain the CEO email, many members have contacted other members through PM to obtain EO contact information.

Re: Cap 1 EO Number Issue?

Capital One has decided to set up their so called "customer service" in this ridiculous way and I find it very telling that the staff is concerned that if word gets out that this wonderful way of conducting business might get "shut down".  I have personally never seen any indication given by Capital One as to which way they would prefer you solve the mystery of obtaining service for your account.  For all we know it takes them weeks to reply to emails because they are flooded with them and would prefer to just talk to us on the phone.  That's the thing about servicing your customers via top secret channels is that you leave it up to them to figure out what works and what doesn't.

I'm not sure where the preaching about the TOS is coming from, I never saw any contact information posted and I tend to agree that it's a little presumptuous to close a thread based on personal ideas or preferences about what you think is the best way for a person to make contact with a lender they are doing business with.

It's just as likely to assume that if the phone lines at the EO get bombarded that Cap1 will figure out that people want a normal realiable way to obtain actual really real customer service that doesn't require multiple points of contact and weeks of waiting.  However, I wouldn't assume to know...

This is a credit forum.  What percentage of the threads posted do think could be classified as "redundant'?  How many of the threads could be locked with a suggestion to use the search function?  That's not what it's all about.  It's a community and people reply to the same questions and the same comments over and over again because it helps people who are looking for help because that's what we do here.

Re: Cap 1 EO Number Issue?

Anyways.....

As I was the original poster of that thread and had multiple PM's with the mod about whether the # shoulb be posted or not, ultimately it was decided not to for many reasons... One is Cap1 will just flat out not allow any contact in the future to there EO and none of us want this.. If they want to do the FB or Email route, I guess that is the theory of how they do business.  I don't agree with it at all, but it is better to havef some way of gettting ahold of them then no way and having to deal with the regular CSR's.  Cap1 has made it clear they don't want this # public for whatever reason.  Anyways, I see both sides of the arguement.  We al know Cap1 is a PITA to do buinesss with as there normal CSR's are well to put it nicely not the brigest stars in the sky or just not empowered to make decisions.  Anyways, gotta follow the rules and they still will get back to you via FB or email, just takes a bit longer..

Re: Cap 1 EO Number Issue?

Meh, don't see the biggie, I have the EO on my cell phone from when they called me. If they wanted it to be some big secret number that nobody should ever call they would have blocked it from showing.

Most items can be handled by the online chat anyway, except for CLI's. I got them to upgrade from QS1 to a QS with no AF on the chat today, took 5 minutes.

+100,000.

I've been seeing a lot of this "post a sticky" instead of helping the poster come up with an answer that fits their needs lately, and it's frankly getting old fast.
