Cap 1 Question

Hi friends, I need some advice before I pull the trigger.

I am in the process of rebuilding, & have done the stupid thing & gotten too many credit cards. I have a plan to close the sub prime cards, and will follow through with that in the coming months as I get those balances sorted. I am in the garden for the next two years as I let inquiries fall off my report. 😅

my problem today? I cannot move the needle on a cli on either capital one card. I have a Walmart rewards & a Platinum card. I pay both cards off several times each month. Only, I made a payment yesterday, & usually have the funds same day. Only, now, there is a 6 day hold on the payment for "fraud protection" which is (while I understand logically) utter nonsense. Especially if you look at my payment history. In my frustration, I told the kid, it was his first day no less so I feel like a really big a-hole, that I'd just cancel the card then. I also kinda feel like a brat. I'm also frustrated about some meds I need but can't afford, too, sooo... I took it out on this kid. 🤦🏻‍♀️(the cost is more than my limits on the cards)

so, should I cancel my cards? My total cli with both is $700.  Or, sock drawer? I have a secured US Bank card that is soon to graduate, and a Merrick w/ a $1400 limit, & a Mission Lane with an $1100 limit. The other cards are $300-$359 limits that I'll soon have paid off and plan on closing because no one needs that.

thanks!

Re: Cap 1 Question

close the really subprime $300 cards, you don't technically need them and paying the fees to hold them is expensive.

keep your Cap1 cards open for now, if they are helpful for you, use them, if not, sock drawer them. If you spend a bunch on them, you might get CLIs, you might not. But don't have very high expectations.

Pay off your debt, let time age your mistakes and see if you can't get 'better' credit cards a year or two from now.

I think trying to solve the above concern is a more productive use of your energy than worrying about your Cap1 cards

I imagine working towards solving above will pay dividends towards your credit concerns as well
