Cap 1 Unsecured

Hi all.  I currently only have a Cap 1 Secured card.  I have had one statement and have made 2 payments.  I have a $200 CL.  I am not sure if I should add more or wait the 45 days to try for an unsecured Cap 1 card?  My scores are 517 Fico, and 520 TU (denial letter).  I am trying to rebuild and with my scores I am not even sure if Cap will give me an unsecured card or if I should just try for another secured card from a different lender.  Any help would be wonderful.  I also have a BK on my report that was discharged in November.

Re: Cap 1 Unsecured

Have you recently tried their "pre qualify" app? I used it and it suggested a card and low and behold I was approved for that card. The pre qualify is truly a soft pull and no ding to your inquiries, just a hard pull if you go through the application for the card they suggest.

With your current scores I would get at least 6 months or longer history on the secured card and deposit money (trt=y to get it to 1K) to the card as well. I think after that yo ushould be able to pick up their NoHassle Cash card.

You think he'd be able to get approved with 2 months of history on 1 secured card?? Maybe if OP has other cards or installment loans with a little bit of history, but im not real sure he gets anything but secured cards if he just has 1 with 2 months history.

Re: Cap 1 Unsecured

I was told by Cap 1 that I have to wait 45 days to apply.  I am thinking I should probably wait with my low scores.  Thanks for the info.

Have you pulled all 3 Credit Reports?

Being that the BK is less then amonth I would bet many errors are going to be on the reports.

Make sure all acounts are reported "Included in BK" and show a $0 Balance and don't show late payments or Charge off etc. after BK filed.

I wouldn't get in a hurry.  Patience is key here!  I would add money each month to your card and apply for a unsecured card when you have at least a 6 month pay history established!  Wait 6 months between credit apps and you should be in great shape in a year or so.

Yes, I have pulled all 3 reports and everything says included in BK- even my student loans.  I am scheduled to start paying them back in January.
